Tired Eyes

By the time I had ridden the elevator down to the car, Bryn was fast asleep on my shoulder with her plastic bag clutched tightly in her left hand.
The day had been so hectic for her that her body couldn't take it anymore and she needed to recharge.
I unlocked the car and gently sat her in her car seat so that she wouldn't wake up. It was getting late so it was best she stayed asleep.
As I drive home, I can't help but take a quick peek in the mirror now and again to make sure she was still fast asleep in her seat.
The whole situation feels surreal. Kara and I having kids together is something I have wanted since the first night we slept together and now it has really happened.

As I pull up into my parking spot outside of our apartment, Bryn starts to stir in her chair and opens her tired eyes.
"Hey princess, are you feeling a bit better?" I ask as I pull my seat belt off so that I can turn in my seat to face to her.
"We home?" she asks quietly.
"Yes baby, we are home," I say as I turn back around and open my door before stepping out. I close my door with a slam and quickly walk to the other side of the car, opening Bryn's door and unbuckling her from her seat and lifting her into my arms.
I walk up the stairs quickly since the elevator is on another floor and I don't really want to wait for it.
As I open the door to our apartment, we are met by Kara who runs up to us and throws her arms around my shoulders.
"Hey, babe" I chuckle as I shut the door with my foot and I place a sweet kiss on Kara's lips at the same time.
"Did you choose a dress sweetheart?" Kara asks Bryn as she places her head next to Bryn's on my shoulder.
"It so pretty Mommy" she smiles tiredly.
"That's great, can Mommy see it?" she asks as I sit down on the couch with Bryn still in my arms.
"Yeah, look!" Bryn says excitedly as she has a surge of energy and almost throws the bag in Kara's direction.
Kara catches the bag and opens it to reveal the blue and white, floral dress and I can see tears start to form in her eyes.
"Oh baby, you will look gorgeous in that" she smiles while a couple of the tears run down her cheeks.
"Mommy not like it?" Bryn asks sadly as her face drops.
"No baby, it is beautiful. You will look like a princess in this dress" Kara replies with a smile as she holds either side of Bryn's face and places a gentle kiss on her forehead.
"Thank you Mommy" she yawns.
"Bedtime for you I think," I tell the little girl as she wraps her arms around Kara's shoulders and brings her close.
"You want Mommy to take you to bed?" I ask.
"Yes" she mumbles as I let go of her and Kara lifts her up into her arms and walks towards her bedroom.
As I sit on the couch, I hear a quiet cry come from our bedroom. I walk in to investigate and I find Isaac sitting up in the cot crying.
"Hey dude," I whisper quietly as I lift him into my arms and rock him back and forth.
"If you're still tired, why did you wake up?" I ask as I wander into the living room and take a seat on the couch with him laying on my chest. I switch on the TV and put on the discovery channel. I'm not even watching it, I have my eyes glued to the baby boy, trying to sleep in my arms.
It only takes roughly 5 minutes before Isaac is fast asleep again and I lay him back down in his cot straight away.
"Daddy!" I hear a little voice yell from Bryn's room.
I walk in to find Bryn laying in her bed with Kara sitting on the end.
"What's up chuck?" I ask as I sit on the other side of her bed.
"Can I have a cuddle before I go to sleep?" she asks me as she flickers her beautiful blue eyes at me in a plea.
"Okay" I chuckle as she wraps her arms around my neck and I pull her into my chest.
"Goodnight Princess" I whisper into her ear.
"Night Daddy" she replies as I let go and tuck her in, before switching off the light and walking out of the room, with Kara's hand entwined in mine.
