Before You, We had No One

Up And Down

-Mon El's POV-

Last night was rough. Both the kids were up and down all night. I get that they were in an unknown bed but when we first adopted them, they were definitely not this bad.
Isaac would have been fine if Bryn didn't keep waking up and making a fuss when we tried to put her back down.
When we first arrived back home at around half nine which is very late for the kids, they were already asleep. Bryn in Alex's arms and Isaac in the front carrier on my chest.
With the help of Eliza and Alex, Kara and I got them both into their pyjamas and into their own beds without waking them up which was a very challenging task.
Once they were in bed, it didn't take 20 minutes before Bryn was up for the first time.
She had been woken up by an owl outside which spooked her out and she didn't know where she was so she started to scream and panic which also woke up Isaac who also started to cry.
Kara and I heard them for downstairs so we ran upstairs and I cuddled with Bryn on her bed until she settled down and Kara paced the room with Isaac rested in her arms until he was fast asleep again.
I laid with Bryn until she was asleep again before tucking her in and leaving the room, keeping the door open a bit more this time.
Kara and I started to watch Passengers with Eliza and Alex downstairs. Kara has been waiting for this film to be released for months but after 30 minutes into the film, Bryn was awake again.
I went upstairs and laid with her until she was asleep.
This time it lasted until 1 o'clock.
Kara and I went up to bed at around 12 so after an hour of sleep, Bryn walked into our room and jumped on to the bed, waking us both up.
We refused to let her sleep in our bed but she didn't want to move so I carried her to her room and put her into her bed and placed the baby monitor on the side so we could hear her.
For the next 10 minutes, we were up listening to her moan until finally, she falls asleep.
Again at 4 she comes into our room again and does the same as last time and just like last time, I drag her back into her bed.
This time her moaning lasts half an hour.
At first, it started off with her complaining that she was tired, then she started to get angry when we still refused to let her sleep with us.
She started to scream which woke up Isaac so I stormed into their room and grabbed Isaac and gave her a warning.
I set up the travel cot that we brought for a moment like this next to our bed and Isaac went straight back to sleep and slept well.
But Bryn continued yelling.
"Mommy, Daddy, you don't love me!" she screamed over and over again which upset Kara so I sat cuddled with Kara as I tried to comfort her too.
After half an hour, Bryn finally wore herself out and to our relief, she slept until 7 this morning.
I knew we weren't going to get much sleep when we signed on the dotted line but I didn't think it would be our 2-year old that is the cause of our sleepless nights.

-Kara's POV-

It is 7 in the morning and Bryn is awake again so Mon-el and I decided to just get out of bed and bring her downstairs because we don't want to fight with her anymore.
We trudge down the stairs sleepily behind Bryn as she runs down the stairs energetically and jumps on the couch waiting for us to switch the TV on for her.
I switch on the kids’ channel for Bryn before cuddling up next to Mon el on the sofa. I rest my head on his shoulder as he places his arms around my waist and pulls me closer.
I close my eyes as I try to bury my face as deep into Mon El's neck as humanly possible.
His smell comforts me as much as his words and I am asleep again in minutes.
