Before You, We had No One

Soon

Once Mon el had arrived back home, he decided to spend some time with the kids before running back to the DEO.
The pain in Bryn's stomach was starting to come back and it was too early for her next dose of medicine so they decided to cuddle on the couch. Bryn sat to Mon el's right and he wrapped his arm tightly around her and she rested her head on his side. Isaac was fast asleep on his lap.

- Mon el's POV -

As Bryn cuddled into my side, I couldn't help but smile. The two of them bring me so much love everyday that I am sure one day my heart will burst. As I brush my hands through Bryn's hair, she looks up at me and asks the one question I'm not ready to answer yet.
"Where is Mommy?"
"Mommy has to work late today Princess but she will be home soon" I answer with a fake smile.
"How long is soon?" Bryn asks as she looks up at me with her big blue eyes.
"I don't know Princess, I'm sorry" I reply sadly as I place a kiss in her hair.
"I miss Mommy" she sighs sadly as a small frown appears on her face.
"I know Princess, me too" I smile as I rub circles on her back.

Once the kids are in bed, I call the babysitter and I head back to the DEO. This time when I arrive, they are a few more people walking around then last time. I notice Alex in the conference room again but I can't see who is on the other end of the call.
I decide to wait in Winn's computer chair. I start to spin around mindlessly as I wait for some news to come in but no one knows anything.

After about an hour, a large crowd of DEO officers swarm into the building and the panic in their voices starts to scare me. The next thing I know, I see a stretcher wheeled in quickly towards the Med bay. I didn't get much of a look but I knew from the colours that that was my girl.
I start to panic as I try to find Winn and to my relief, I finds me first.
"Mon el!" He yells as he runs over to me.
"Winn, what's going on? How's Kara?" I ask as he pulls me in for a hug.
"Kara is injured Mon el. I'm not too sure how but she is. I'm sorry" He replies sadly as he pulls his arms away from me.
At that moment I felt my world crash around me.
Kara's hurt. How bad? Where? Will she recover? No one has the answers.
I feel the tears well up in my eyes but I don't have the strength or energy to push them in so I let them fall down cheeks, leaving their red marks behind as evidence of my weakness.
"Where is she" I force out as Winn takes a seat at his computer.
"Medbay" he answers plainly as he too looks broken.

The curtains in the medbay windows are pulled closed so I can't see a thing. I try to take a seat but within seconds I am back up on my feet so I give up and let myself pace the halls.
After being left outside the medbay for 2 hours with no news, Alex finally leaves the medbay.
"How is she? What's going on?"
Alex takes a long, deep breathe before answering my question.
"She has been exposed to more kryptonite then her body can handle and there was a chance she wouldn't survive so the Doctors have put her in an induced coma while her body heals" Alex explains as she tries to keep herself together.
"When will she wake up?" I ask as I take a seat before I collapse on the floor in shock.
"They're not sure. It could be between a couple of days and a couple of months depending on how fast her body heals from the kryptonite damage" Alex replies as she takes a seat next me and takes my hand in hers.
I can't help but give in to the tears that have been threatening the flow all day. I just don't have the strength to hold them in anymore.
"When can I see her?" I ask between sobs.
"Soon, I promise" Alex replies as she rests her head on my shoulder as tears start to flow down her face too.
