He sat in the library, stacks of books piled beside him.
The house was still, but his thoughts were racing.
I mean, why not?
He was abosrbed in the book, barely even noticing when Yuki had walked in.
"I'm bored..." She said.
She frowned when she realized he wasn't listening.
"Hiro...Hiro!"
He quickly looked up, quickly looking around before he was met with his angry, younger sister.
"Oh, Yuki...is something wrong?"
"I'm bored." She told him.
"Pick up a book and read."
"I don't wanna read."
"Uh, what about your toys?"
"I've been playing with them all day!"
He sighed, bookmarking his page and getting up.
"Do you want to take a nap?" He asked.
"No!"
"Hungry?"
"No!"
He frowned. "...don't be a brat."
"Let's play Hide and Seek!" She grinned.
"No."
"But-"
"The last time we played and I couldn't find you, you decided to try and go outside."
"I wanted to see something!" She cried.
"Mother and father don't want us going out there without them being here."
"But Kaname would-"
"Kaname isn't here either. You're stuck with boring Hiro for the next few days." He reminded her.
She frowned, tears prickiling at the edge of her eyes.
Then she started crying.
"I hate you!" She wailed.
"Okay, okay! We can play hide and seek!" He said quickly, picking her up.
Hiro walked through the halls of the large house, holding Yuki close before putting her on the couch.
"You know the rules: No going outside, no cheating."
She nodded quickly, and gave him a thumbs up.
"Ready?"
"Yes!" She smiled, running off the couch as he started counting.
He covered his eyes, listening to her small footsteps.
Like Yuki, He had been confined to the house his entire life. Nine years of seeing the same place doesn't give you a lot of space to do anything.
So he read about people in other places. About knights who rescued others and sometimes themselves, Gods with mighty power, Mages, even Humans.
"Ready or not, here I come."
Yuki ran, giggling to herself as she tried to find a place to hide.
She always got caught under the bed and in the closet.
Where could she go?
Hiro walked around the house, smiling as he walked to her hiding spot.
"Gotcha!" He said, looking underneath the bed.
He raised an eyebrow, realizing she wasn't there.
He tried the closet, and every room after that.
...oh no.
"YUKI!"
He ran downstairs, looking around the kitchen and living room.
A scream tore through the house, and he rushed towards the source.
"Yuki-"
He froze.
She was underneath the stairs, shaking as a spider dangled itself in front of her.
She was on the verge of tears, and Hiro burst out laughing, his fear put at ease.
Walking over, he reached his hand out.
"Yuki, it's just a spider. C'mon." He said, helping her up.
He picked up the spider by the web and shower her, earning another scream.
"Sorry."
He brought the spider to the door, setring it down and watching as it crawled outside through the small opening at the bottom.
"I win." He said, turning to Yuki.
She clung to his shirt, pouting.
"No fair. I got scared." She told him.
He rolled his eyes, smiling.
"Fine. You win, and as a reward, you get to have a pick from my candy jar."
"Really?" She asked, her smile returning.
He nodded, and they went upstairs, sitting on the wooden floors, surrounded by candy from different countires and states.
Their parents usually left him in charge whenever they had to go make public appearance.
With the protective aura around the house gates, their presence wouldn't be detected.
It wasn't hard, since he moslty read and she played, but sometimes he would fret when they were gone longer than they said.
The servants would be too busy to pay attention to them, only having three of them in total.
Kaname would stay whenever he could, but those were rare occasions. Hiro liked when Kaname was here, it was hard to talk to Yuki about books and ask questions.
He trusted they were alright, and would wait all day and night until they came back.
Sometimes Yuki would cry because she missed them, so Hiro would try and cheer her up games and stories and snacks.
But he missed them too.
"Kaname said he'd being back more candy for us." He told Yuki. "So you can eat three pieces. And three more tomorrow, IF you behave."
She nodded quickly, already choosing her three.
He helped her open it and watched as she happily ate it, her worries vanishing.
...but she would be a bit more hyper before bedtime.
He sweatdropped, knowing the rest of the day would be tiring.
