His parents should be coming home today.
Yuki had already been given a blood packet, a shower, and her hair was washed and combed.
He had done the same after putting her to sleep, exhausted from playing games and reading for the past week.
Yuki swung her legs back and forth, doodling by the wall.
It was quiet, Yuki humming along to a song, Hiro finishing his book.
He felt something enter the gate, relaxing when he recognized who.
"They've come back, Yuki." He said, watching as she rose from her seat and smiled widely.
They went downstairs, Yuki skipping steps.
She didn't notice Hiro had stopped moving.
She ran to the door when she heard it open, joyously running into the arms of her mother.
"Mommy!"
"Yuki!"
She was lifted into the air, and hugged tightly.
"I missed you." She told them.
"We missed you, too." Haruka smiled.
"...where's Hiro?" Kaname asked.

Hiro watched as Yuki skipped down the stairs, smiling when he heard the door open.
But he froze.
There was something...
Something calling for him.
He turned around, and walked back up the stairs.
Lost in a trance, he walked to the end of the hall and opened the attic door.
Up in the attic, Hiro stood in in the middle of the room, eyes wide.
There was a dark shadow calling to him, beckoning him forward.
It whispered all around him, and the room began to spin and spin and-
"-Hiro!"
He jumped, seeing his father.
He looked back at the shadow, but it was gone.
"Hiro, what's wrong?" Haruka asked, kneeling down before him, hands on his shoulders.
"...I thought I heard something." He said.
"What did you hear?"
His mind went blank, and she shook his head.
"...I don't know."

Hiro sat in the corner of the library, reading another story.
Kaname had enetered the room, finding him in his favorite spot near the last window.
"Hiro."
"Hm?" He looked up, Kaname taking a seat beside him.
"What are you reading?"
"A history book. What's an arrow?" He asked.
"Its a long stick with sharp metal attacked to the end."
"Huh, they didn't have a picture for it in the book."
"Not everything's going to be in a book, Hiro." Kaname smiled.
"But, brother...when can we go see everything? Yuki's tired of being in here, and she cries a lot when you guys leave."
"I'm guessing she isn't the only one..."
He blushed, mouth ajar.
"I-I don't cry..." He mumbled.
Kaname laughed, ruffling his hair. He pulled him close.
"I promise you'll both get to see the world beyond these gates."
Hiro leaned in, closing his eyes and smiling.
"...Okay."
He trusted Kaname's words, knowing he never broke his promises.
But he would always wonder wen he'd ne able to leave.
He wanted to move away when he got older.
Hiro usually isolated himself.
He had noticed his family had seemed distant, almost fearful of him sometimes.
Especially Yuki.
She didn't like his eyes.
She had screamed when he went to check on her, seeing as she had a nightmare.
She said his eyes were looking at her like she was food. Like he would eat her.
She had once told them she thought they were pretty, so it hurt when she cried at his presence.
It happened, sometimes, when they were home alone.
She would lock him out and cry, but he would stay by the door and make sure she didn't hurt herself.
They were mixed, an icy blue and deep red. He didn't know why, since neither of his parents had blue eyes.
So he tried to make himself smaller, going to the library and reading in his favorite spot near the last window, hidden behind bookshelves.
They wouldn't be scared if he wasn't there.
And it wasn't so bad, he really liked reading anyway.
...but it pained him.
