Kaname stood before the council like a rabbit facing a pack of wolves.
But in truth...it was Kaname who was the wolf.
Yet, they each wanted to devour him. To take his pureblood essence for their own and become more powerful. He enticed them, knowing full well if he were to ever show weakness, they would strike.
A nest of rabbits trying to eat a wolf.
Laughable, honestly.
Kaname would soon do what needed to be done. He just had to be patient.
With Hiro's arrival, he had believed to be at a disadvantage. Having his younger siblings to protect while trying to overthrow the council was going to be difficult.
But now, he realized, it would be a bigger advantage.
He had all the pieces to secure a complete victory. No one to stand against him, and more than enough to stand with him.
"Kaname-sama." Asato Ichijou spoke first, his voice echoing within the large room. "Your unannounced visit is unexpected but most gracious."
"I apologize for not alerting you of my presence." His words were empty, but they pleased the members of the council immensely.
"But, it seems there is a matter of dire importance I must discuss with you all."
This peeked their attention.
"Please, young lord. Elaborate."
Kaname stepped forward. "A Pureblood has appeared at the academy."
Whispers erupted front their mouths, questions and comments echoing about.
"A...Pureblood?" Ichijo asked, eyes narrowing. "All Purebloods in existence have been recorded and known about by the council."
Kaname stifled his need to smile. Instead, his face grew serious.
"His name is Hiro Kuran."
Shock spread across each of their faces.
"A Kuran?"
"Another one?"
"A second son?"
"I see." Ichijo spoke, silencing the others. With narrowed eyes, he looked to Kaname. There was a glint of irritation in his eyes. "How is this possible?"
As if he was sensing a brewing plan on Kaname's mind.
Rude, yet smart to be suspicious.
"He has been resting inside a coffin. The death of Haruka and Juri wounded him greatly as a young child."
A burst of chatter flew into the air.
"We would very much like to meet this young man." Said another council member, her smile full of amusement.
"An introduction is imperative."
"And no one else knew of his existence until now?"
"What an interesting dilemma..."
"Then it is settled." Ichijo folded both hands, leaning forward. "Please bring this young Vampire to the council, so he may be...under our protection, Kaname-sama."
"Thank you for sharing this knowledge with us." They each repeated, bowing their heads.
Kaname could already see them hoping to control Hiro like a puppet: another Pureblood Vampire for them to collect. And this time, they had a young Vampire that was still impressionable.
He felt something disgusting wrap around his stomach. But he ignored the gross feeling.
"There is only one problem." Kaname said with feign disappointment.
"Oh?" Someone said, waving a fan.
"He was arrested by Hunters. Apparently, one had attacked him, in which he retaliated and killed the hunter."
Silence.
"He let himself be arrested..?" Asked the same woman.
"Yes, to keep peace with the hunters." Kaname said with utmost pride.
They seemed to like this.
To know a Pureblood put his life on the line to preserve the peace between the two sides. They seemed pleased by his sacrifice, pleased to know he was a compliant and rational.
"We will help in whatever way we can." Said the woman.
She looked to Ichijou, the other members sharing a glance.
"So we are all in agreement."
"Thank you for your cooperation." Kaname spoke, barely giving them another glance as he turned to leave.
Now...all he had to do was wait.
