I picked my skateboard up before going to the beach. It was more crowded today, since schools were on spring break.
I set my stuff down on the sand before sitting down and taking my shoes off, looking out at the ocean. I dug my feet into the sand before plugging my ear buds into my phone and playing my playlist.
Before long I felt a volleyball hit my back. I turned around and saw Blake. Blake was one of the quiet, shy girls when me and Nadia went to public school, and wow had she changed.
"Hi, Kourtney! How are you?" She asked.
"I'm good, I just came down to clear my mind. How are you?"
"I'm good," she said.
"You look great."
"Thank you. Oh, sorry about the ball, by the way. We're down a few players and were uneven so it's harder to keep it in the court."
"I can play of you guys want me too," I offered.
"Really?"
"Yeah, I played all of middle school and Freshman and Sophomore year."
"That would be awesome. You can set your stuff down near the net with ours."
"Alright, I'll be there in a second." I got up and grabbed all my stuff before heading over to the volleyball net. I set my stuff down and went over to Blake's side.
"Can you play front middle?" Blake asked.
"Yeah, sure."
I got into position and some dude from my History class served the ball.
"Mine!" Blake called as she hit the ball into the air.
Another girl called the ball, hitting it towards me.
"Got it!" I called. I hit the ball over the net and scored a point for our team.
"Not bad," Blake complemented, giving me a high five.
We continued playing the game until Blake's team, our side, finally won.
"I have to go, thanks for letting me play," I said.
"No problem, where are you going?" Blake asked.
"Probably this little coffee shop on the board walk. I need to finish some papers and edit a few things."
"Can I come?"
"Yeah, sure. A little company won't be bad."
"Thanks."
We got our things and started walking toward the board walk. We rinsed our feet off and put our shoes on.
We got to the coffee shop about 10 minutes later. We went in and ordered our coffees, and cookies, before finding a seat in the back corner. I pulled my laptop out of my bag before starting to edit my most recent cover.
"What are you working on?" She asked. She moved over into the spot beside me, watching me edit.
"One of my covers. I filmed it yesterday, I just haven't got to edit it yet."
"Oh yeah, I saw that video of you singing. It was really good."
"Thanks."
"So why did you guys all quit school?" She asked.
"We didn't quit, we just changed to online school since it was easier with our schedules," I explained.
She nodded her head and kept watching me edit. We sat in silence for a few minutes before Blake spoke up again.
"Isn't that the boys?"
I glanced out of the window and saw the boys, along with Logan, walking down the board walk. "Yup."
"Wonder what they're doing here."
"Most likely something for Logan's vlog. Want to go say hi?"
"Sure."
We picked our things up and I put my laptop into my backpack before leaving the shop and catching up with the boys.
"Watch this," I said to Blake. I cupped my hands around my mouth and yelled. "I SAID A BOOM BOOM BOOM NOW LET ME HEAR YOU SAY WAYHOOOOO!"
Jack and Zach turned around before shouting, "WAYHOOOO!"
Everyone else turned around and started their way towards me and Blake.
"It's Kourtney!"
"It's Logan!"
"Who's this? You look really familiar." Jack said as they approached us.
"Oh, guys, this is Blake. She went to public school with us."
"Hi," she said.
"Oh yeah, Blake. I remember you." Jonah gave Blake a little, awkward, hug before backing away.
"So, what are you guys doing here?" Zach asked.
"I just came down to the beach then me and Blake ended up going to that coffee shop."
"Coffee? Without me?" Jonah said, pretending to be hurt.
"Sorry Jo."
"Alright, well, we gotta go. I have a vlog to film," Logan announced.
"Oh, I have to go too. I have to pick my little sister up from a friend's house."
"Alright, bye Blake."
"Bye."
I set my skate board down before heading back home.
I was almost at the end of the board walk when I saw, someone, watching me the whole way to the road. They were in a black hoodie with the hood up, jeans, and tennis shoes. I decided to play it smart and ordered an Uber to take me the rest of the way home.
