"Daniel, you need to stay in bed."
"But I need to get up."
"And do what? I can bring you anything. Food, drinks, your guitar."
"How long do I have to stay in bed?"
"Two more days. Then the doctor said you could start to get up and move around. Until then, lay down, I'll bring you your food."
"Fine."
I went back downstairs and made Daniel's food.
Daniel was the kind of person who didn't want to be trapped indoors, or stay in one spot, so the last three days have been torture to him.
I got his food and went back upstairs.
"Thank you for helping me out, Kourt."
"Hey, it's what best friends are for. Besides, someone has to make sure you stay in bed and don't hurt yourself."
"Can you bring me my guitar?" Daniel asked, pointing to his guitar case.
"Yeah." I got off the bed and opened his case, pulling his guitar out. I helped Daniel sit up, since his side was still sore, and handed him his guitar.
He started to play with the strings while I sat on the end of the bed watching.
I couldn't help but notice the one little hair that was out of place, or the way his hands flowed over the guitar. I didn't even realize he was talking.
"Kourtney!"
"Huh? Sorry, zoned out for a second," I said, repositioning myself on the bed. "What did you say?"
"I asked if you were coming on tour with us."
"No, I have to stay here and work on my career. I wish I could though." Cause that would mean we might actually have a chance.
Daniel dropped his head, still playing with the strings on his guitar.
"I can probably come to a few shows, though."
His frown turned into a slight smile as he looked up. "Good, I need my best friend there for moral support."
Dang, so that's what it felt like all those times I called him 'best friend.'
"It's what I'm here for," I said, forcing a smile. I hope it wasn't obvious that it was forced, but Daniel's facial expression changed to confusion. At least he didn't question it. We sat there for a few minutes, him playing with his guitar and me watching.
"Before we leave for tour, we need to do one last cover."
"You guys leave in two weeks. You're gonna be gone for six months. You have hours of meetings, and rehearsals, and interviews to do before you guys leave. How are you going to find time to do a cover with me?"
"I'll find a way."
-
"Why can't I read it?"
"Because it is not for you."
"If it's not for me then I should be able to read it!" I reached over Daniel, making sure not to hurt him, trying to grab a piece of paper he had.
"Only the person it is for can read it!"
"The you can't read it!"
"I guess I can't."
"Ugh, fine. I hate you Daniel James Seavey."
Daniel put his hand over his heart, pretending to be hurt. "I thought you were my best friend," Daniel said, pretending to cry.
I laughed at him as Zach came into the room.
"Hey Kourtney, can you come downstairs for a second?"
"Yeah, sure." I got down off the bed and followed Zach downstairs. Jasmine was sitting on the boys' couch, talking to Dave. "What's up?"
"Kourtney, just the person I was looking for," Dave said, walking over to me. "We need your help."
"What's up?"
"I'm supposed to be opening for all of the boy's shows, just like I have before," Jasmine said, getting off the couch and standing in front of me. "But something came up and I can only do half of the shows, so there won't be anyone to open up for the last three months of tour."
"What does this have to do with me?" I asked.
Jonah shook his head as Corbyn put his head in his hands.
"Kourtney, will you open up for us the three months Jasmine won't be there?" Jack asked, sounding hopeful.
"Really?"
"Yes, really!" The four boys yelled in sync.
"Yes! I'll do it!" I said, sticking my hands up in the air. "But, can we not tell Daniel? I want to surprise him. He was upset earlier because I didn't think I would be able to go on tour with you guys."
"Great. And yeah, we'll keep it from Daniel," David said. "Me and you will meet and discuss this tomorrow, I have to head out."
"Alright, bye."
I went back upstairs with a smile on my face.
"What did he need?" Daniel asked, looking up from his guitar.
"The Xbox wasn't working and they needed help," I said, making up the first thing that came to mind.
"Did you fix it?"
"Yes, Daniel, the Xbox is fine."
"Good."
"Great."
"Awesome."
"Fantastic."
"Amazing."
"Perfect."
