I woke up to the house being oddly quiet. There was an uneasy feeling in the air. Something was off. I got out of my bed, making sure to lock my door, on the way out, and went into the bathroom. I changed into a gray t-shirt and some white jean shorts. I put my hair into two French braids and did some simple make up. By the time I was finished the uneasy feeling still hadn't went away. I went back into my room and called Nadia.
"Hey, where are you?" I asked, sitting down on my bed.
"I went out with Brody, didn't you see the note on the kitchen counter?"
I decided to just make something up and to try not to worry her.
"Oh, must have just looked over it. Do you know when you will be back?" I looked down and started to pick at my nails.
"Probably around seven tonight, why?"
"Oh, just curious. Okay, I'll see you when you get back. Bye."
I hung the phone up and unlocked my door, going downstairs. Nothing looked unusual, but I had watched enough Criminal Minds to know to look for small details. I went into the kitchen and noticed that there was no note on the kitchen counter, or anywhere, to be exact. A few things also looked like they had been moved. Not enough to notice at first glance, but you could tell if you looked at them carefully.
I slowly went back up into my room, which was left just the way it was, thank goodness. I called Daniel to see if they were busy. Having someone over might help take this feeling away.
"Hey, Daniel, are you guys busy?"
"Uh, were recording a couple songs right now, but were not doing anything after that."
"What time will you guys be done?"
"Around five, why? Is something wrong?" Daniel asked. I could hear the worry in his voice, and I could picture his face becoming scrunched as he tried to think of what could be wrong.
"No, everything is fine," I lied. "But could you guys come over when you're done recording?"
"Yeah, I'll text you when we're on our way."
"Okay."
I hung up the phone and looked down. There was only one other person I could call before I ended up being stuck here alone, since Logan was traveling for something.
"Hey, West, are you busy?"
"No, not at all. Why?"
"If I send you my address, can you come over? I don't live that far from you."
"Yeah, sure. Just send it to me and I'll be on my way."
"Okay, thanks." I was about to hang up the phone but then I remembered something. "Oh, spare key is underneath the mat, just come in and come upstairs. My room is the first one on the right."
"Okay, I'll me there in a few."
-
There was a quiet knock on my door before West walked in.
"What's up?"
"I feel like something is off. Everyone is gone, and I was home alone, but I didn't feel alone. I don’t think I was alone."
"What do you mean?"
"I asked Nadia where she was cause I had that weird feeling when I woke up, and she said she had went out with Brody. Then she asked if I had saw the note she had left on the counter, and I told her no, I must have over looked it because I didn’t want to freak her out." I stopped for a second and picked at a thread on my blanket. "So, I went downstairs and into the kitchen, and there was no note. Anywhere. It didn’t fall off of the counter, it wasn’t in the trash, it wasn’t on the fridge, it was just, gone. Then I looked around and noticed that things were moved around. It isn't very noticeable unless you look. Things were switched in different spots, and things would be moved to the left or to the right. It was weird. And the entire time, I didn’t feel alone. Not like someone was in the house, but that I was being watched."
"Well, now that I'm here, let's not worry about it. We can watch movies, or we can go out someplace, whatever you like," West said, grabbing my hand.
"Well, since I don’t feel as creeped out now, Stranger things?"
"We can watch stranger things."
"Good, we were going to watch it anyways." I got off of my bed and grabbed my laptop. I sat on the bed and curled into West's side as he put his arm around me.
-
"Kourtney, we're here!" Jonah yelled as the door opened downstairs. I heard footsteps coming up the stairs before my door opened.
"What's up, Daniel said we-"
Daniel cut Jonah off before he could continue. "Who is that?"
"Oh, this is West. He came over earlier. Some weird things were happening and he came over, just in case."
West nodded toward the guys and mumbled a "Hey." You could tell he felt uncomfortable. I mean, the guys were like protective brothers, and Daniel was the worst, so it must not feel good having five sets of ears burning into your skin.
Daniel walked over to West. His jaw was clenched and you could tell he was getting protective. "Daniel." Daniel stuck his hand out towards West.
West took his hand and shook it. "West."
"So, you and Kourtney?"
"Maybe, soon."
"Well, if you break her heart, I'll break your face, pretty boy. Just a warning."
"Very clear caution tape. Don’t hurt Kourtney or else I will be the body in a crime scene," West said. I think he was trying to be funny, I'm not sure.
Daniel looked at West with a straight face. "Not time for jokes. You WILL be the body at a crime scene, and you will regret ever losing her."
"Daniel, over protective much?"
"I'm not letting you get hurt again, K. I promise you won't get hurt again."
I looked at Daniel and gave him a smile. "Thanks, D." I looked over at west and gave his hand a reassuring squeeze. He smiled at me before kissing my forehead.
Don’t make a promise you can't keep, Daniel, was all that was running through my head, over, and over again.
