"K, are you busy today?" Daniel asked over the phone.
"No, why?"
"Because, I want to go somewhere and I already recorded my part for the new song, so I'm lonely. Will you come with me?"
"Yeah, let me finish editing this video then I'll meet you at your house."
"No, I'll go ahead and come over. We can leave once you're finished, it will save gas."
"Okay, come on over then."
"On my way."
I hung up the phone and went back to editing my latest cover.
-
Daniel walked into my room right as I finished editing.
"Let me change then we can go."
"Alright. Oh, wear a swimsuit."
I grabbed a light pink swimsuit, some shorts, and a t-shirt. I went into my bathroom and changed before going back out to my room.
"You ready?"
"Yeah, let's go."
We went downstairs and got into Daniel's car.
"So, where are we going?" I asked, buckling my seatbelt.
"It’s a surprise."
"It's always a surprise."
"And it's going to stay that way."
-
"Daniel, I've not been here in months," I said stepping out of the car.
"Me neither. I thought it would be nice to come back with my favorite person."
We started the hike up the trail Daniel leading and me following.
Once we reached the top I noticed a little picnic area set up.
"Did you do this?" I asked, sitting down on the blanket.
"Possibly," he replied, sitting down next to me.
"Well, it’s a good thing you did, because I am starving." I took a bite of my sandwich as Daniel took a bite out of his.
-
"Come on, just jump."
"Last time I jumped off this cliff I almost died."
"You were perfectly fine, you didn’t almost die."
"I almost died coming back up," I pointed out.
"Yeah, but that didn’t have anything to do with jumping," Daniel argued.
"Fine." I held out my hand and Daniel grabbed it, smirking.
"Why are you smirking?"
"No reason." Before I could register anything, Daniel took off running, pulling me behind him.
We jumped off of the cliff and landed in a big splash.
I surfaced the water and swam over to the large, flat rock.
"See, you didn’t die," Daniel said. He pulled himself up onto the rock and sat beside me. "Nothing to be afraid of."
"I could have landed on a rock."
"But you didn’t."
"But I could have."
"Kourtney."
"Daniel."
"Hold your breath."
"What?"
Daniel stood up and picked me up, jumping back into the water.
"Daniel James Seavey!" I yelled, splashing water at him. "Kourtney Evelyn Macey," he yelled back, splashing water at me as well.
-
After swimming for a while we both started to get tired.
"Do you think we should start heading back?" I asked.
"Yeah, probably."
We got out and started back up the trail.
I was looking ahead of me when I accidently slipped on a rock, again. And again, Daniel caught me.
"Geez, you need to stop falling for me, K," Daniel said, smirking. He slowly looked down, pressing his head against mine and looking into my eyes.
"Too bad, I already have." I wrapped my arms around his neck and looked into his eyes.
We both started to lean in, until we kissed. And it was the best feeling in the world.
"Kourtney, will you be my girlfriend?" Daniel asked once we pulled away.
"Yes, Daniel, I will be your girlfriend." I smiled and pulled him back into another kiss.
