May 14th
"Kourtney, you have to go home. You need to sleep, and eat," Jonah said, walking into Daniels hospital room.
"No, I'm not leaving him, Jonah. He's always been there for me, so I'm always going to be there for him." I looked up at Jonah and saw him looking at Daniel.
"Do you want me to bring you anything? Something to eat or drink?"
"Coffee please. Thanks."
"No problem. I'll be back in about fifteen minutes," Jonah said, walking back out of the hospital room.
I looked back over at Daniel. They took him into surgery as soon as he got to the hospital. After the surgery he drifted in and out of sleep. Then three days ago, he fell into a coma. I haven't left his side once.
*flashback to May 11th*
I heard shuffling from Daniels bed. He has woken up for the fourth time after his surgery. He was still a little loopy from the medicine they had given him, though.
"Hey Nadia?" Daniel asked, his eyes still closed.
"It's Kourtney, Daniel." I leaned forward in my chair, holding his hand.
"Nadia, just listen to me, please." He sounded out of breath, like he had just run a marathon and was struggling for air. His eyes fluttered open as he looked at me.
"Okay, I'm listening."
"Please, when you see her, tell Kourtney that I love her." He slowly closed his eyes. His heart monitor suddenly went flat as the loud beep went through the room. Nurses and doctors rushed in and took him away, leaving me alone in his room.
*end of flashback*
After that, Daniel went into a coma. He had been in one for three days now. Keri and Jeff had come and stayed the night the first day. After that they went to the boy's house and had just come in and out to check on him. Anna and Tyler had stopped by and brought me food, blankets, and a change of clothes. I hadn't eaten any of the food, I only had some water to drink. I had only slept about thirty minutes total the past three nights.
I leaned forward and grabbed Daniel's hand, pressing it against my forehead. "Please wake up," I whispered, barely loud enough for myself to hear. "Because I love you too, and I can't lose you the moment I realize my true feelings."
I felt a tear roll down my face as I closed my eyes, trying not to break down. I felt a light squeeze on my hand. I looked up and Daniel's eyes fluttered open.
"What did I miss?"
"Daniel! You're awake!" I yelled, jumping up and giving him a hug.
"Shhh, my head hurts," he whispered before wrapping his free arm around me.
"Sorry."
"What happened? And why am I in a hospital?"
"You got stabbed, then you went into a coma for three days."
"Kourtney, I got your coffee- Daniel?" Jonah walked through the door and looked between me and Daniel.
"Hey Jonah, what's up?" Daniel smiled as Jonah tried to not drop the coffee.
"Bro, you're up! When?" Jonah asked, looking at me.
"About ten minutes ago," I said, grabbing my coffee out of Jonah's hand. Daniel looked at me as his face changed from happy to worried.
"Kourtney, when was the last time you slept?"
"May eleventh."
"What day is it?"
"May fourteenth."
"And why have you not slept?"
"Because I have been worried sick. When your best friend is in a coma for three days, it is pretty hard to sleep."
A few nurses came into the room to check on Daniel. They said it would be about an hour before we could go back into his room, so while they were checking up on him, me and Jonah went to get food from a café around the corner. Once Daniel had woken up, I realized how hungry I actually was.
"Hi, welcome to Daisy's Café, what can I get you?" A woman walked up to the counter as me and Jonah walked in.
"I just want the classic sandwich and a chocolate chip cookie," I said, pulling my wallet out of my bag.
"Same for me," Jonah said. He placed his hand on mine, stopping me from paying, and handed the woman his card.
"Really, Jonah. I can pay for my food."
"Yes, but you have been in a hospital room worrying about your best friend for the past four days. The least I can do is pay for your food."
"Fine."
We got our food then went outside and sat down at an outdoor table.
"Have you looked out the window of Daniels room in the past few days?" Jonah asked, shoving a piece of his food into his mouth.
"No, I've barely moved from that seat. Why?"
Jonah pulled out his phone before handing it to me. There were pictures of fans on the street holding 'get well soon' posters. "All of the posters and gifts are back at the house. You got some too. But cops made them all leave early this morning because they were starting to block the entrance."
I handed Jonah his phone back. "Wow."
"I know. We better get going. Its only ten minutes before were allowed back in, and the guys, Nadia, and his family are all on their way."
"Alright." I picked my trash up and threw it in the garbage can. My phone buzzed as I pulled it out of my pocket.
theauthor: How's Daniel?
kourtneyofficial_: he woke up today!
theauthor: yay!
theauthor: did he say anything about what he told you?
kourtneyofficial_: no, don't think he remembers.
theauthor: are you gonna remind him or ask him about it?
kourtneyofficial_: probably not. If something comes up or he remembers, then yeah, but I think I'll just leave it for now.
"Kourtney, you coming?"
"Yeah."
