Alec's POV
I sighed as I walked around the pathway of Central Park, which I haven't visited for 8 months, when a girl ran into me. "I'm so sorry!" She exclaimed. "It's fine," I responded.
"I should've watched where I was going. Anyway, I'm Patrica. And you must be?"
"Alec"
"Hm, sorry again for running into you, but I really have to go"
I stared as she ran off. Shaking my head, I returned to my walk before I was interrupted a second time. "Are you Alexander Lightwood?" The man asked. "Um, yeah," I answered, unsure.
"I was told to give you this"
As he handed me the envelope, I just stood there scared to open it. I shook my head and opened the envelope carefully and read what was inside.

Dear Alexander,
You are invited to the masquerade ball and therefore, a special guest. Find me and I'm your hero. Don't look and receive punishment. Be here around 4:45 pm, don't be late. The game begins at 6. Good luck and I hope you will be the one to find me.

~M

P.S. Don't even think about not coming just because of our breakup

I stared at the letter, rereading the words that was meant for me. I sighed and ran quickly to the Institute as it was around 3:30 and the masquerade ball is tonight. "Alec?" Jace yelled as I ran into his room, going through his clothes. "Last minute outfit," I mumbled to myself.
"Were you invited to the masquerade ball?"
"So what if I was?"
"Woah, calm down. I have the perfect outfit for you"
"I'll take it. I have to be there by 4:45"
Jace nodded and literally threw me the outfit. I looked at the outfit in disgust, but wore it anyway. "Want Clary to make a portal?" Jace asked. "That'd be great," I answered.

A few minutes later

Magnus's POV
"It's 4:50! Where the hell is Alexander?!" Andrew yelled. "He'll be here, be patient," I responded, shaking my head. The doorbell rang immediately after I said that. "Alec!" Patrica screamed. "Patrica, you-" Alec asked, shocked.
"Yep! I'm the princess of this masquerade ball!"
"I can see that judging by your outfit"
"You're late," Andrew spoke simply. "Well I'm sorry if I received a late notice," Alec responded, annoyed.
"That's still not an excuse!"
"Andrew, that's enough!" I yelled as Alec looked at me as if forgetting I was there at all. "Tell your little boyfriend to not show up late then," Andrew scowled.
"One, I broke up with him 8 months ago. And two, you can't control whether he comes on time or late"
"I don't truly believe that"
I rolled my eyes. "Whatever, guests should be filling in about a hour. Make yourselves comfortable and I hope to see you all tonight," I spoke before leaving.

Alec's POV
"I can't wait to be the one to find him," Patrica said. "No, I'll find him first," I responded, annoyed. There was no way in hell I was going to let Patrica find my Magnus and take him away from me forever. Especially since Magnus wanted me to find him, not an obsessive girl. "Mhm," a guard spoke, bringing me back to reality. "Yes?" I asked, confused.
"Magnus would like to speak to you"
"But-"
Patrica laughed. "Maybe he wants me to find him and not his ex boyfriend. Do you really believe Magnus still loves you? I'm his new girlfriend," Patrica said. "I'm sorry, but when did we start dating? I saved you once, Patrica, and now you're obsessive about dating me," Magnus hissed.
