I slowly pushed myself up from the bed. I was alone, but that didn’t stop myself from tensing up. I heard their voices before I could even fully wake up.
“You don’t have the right to just take her!” Liam’s voice croaked.
“She left you a note. She told you not to worry.” Carter was desperate.
“You mean to tell me, that if she left you a lousy note, you wouldn’t worry?” Louis’ voice shot through the air.
“I didn’t know, okay? I was getting ready to leave and she still wasn’t asleep. I offered and she took the offer. We didn’t do anything if that’s what you’re worried about!” Carter hissed.
“We know you didn’t fucking do anything because if you did, you would be dead!” Liam struggled.
“Where is she?” Louis demanded.
“She’s still asleep! Just let her sleep!”
“She can sleep at our place! Not some random workers_”
“I’m not some random worker. We’re friends! You two seem to forget that she worked for you too!”
“She never worked for us because she was always hurt! Now, where the fuck is she?”
Liam’s voice was hard and extremely close to the door now. I shut my eyes and quickly turned around so that my back was facing the door just in case I couldn’t fake it.
I heard the door open as I attempted to even out my breathing. I tried to stay as calm as possible so I could make the illusion that I was asleep. My even pulse was short-lived though because I felt his fingers trace my arm.
“Sarah… Wake up babe.” He whispered. I tried hard not to stir. “Babe.”
His fingers went under my chin as his moved my head towards his. I groaned to act like he was waking me up. I opened my eyes slowly to be faced with a worried boy. I decided smiling was my best bet, and it turned out to be the best decision I had in a long time because he smiled back.
“Morning.” He smiled.
“Good morning.” I yawned.
“Will you come back with me?” His face scrunched up. I swallowed.
“You want me too?”
“Of course I do.” He grinned, taking a seat next to me.
“But yesterday.”
“I needed some time. But I’m okay now.”
I chose my next words carefully, knowing that he was listening.
“What about Louis?”
“What about him?”
“He hates me more than you do_”
“I don’t hate you Sarah.”
“Well he does. And I just_”
Louis walked through with tears in his eyes. He sat down beside Liam and took my hand in his.
“I don’t hate you either. Is that why you left? Because you thought I hated you?”
“No. I left because I couldn’t sleep.” I laughed, trying to lighten the mood. It didn’t work.
“That’s because you tried to sleep on that god-awful couch silly.” Liam ruffled my hair.
I rolled my eyes before stretching my arms out in front of me, causing Louis to let go of my hand.
