I walked towards the kitchen to find Carter. He was sitting on a stool, eating leftovers from Ms. Payne’s meal.
“Hey!” I smiled, taking the seat next to him.
“Hi. What did you want to talk about?”
“Uh, yeah. I’m leaving.”
“Are you now?” He chuckled.
“You don’t seem to shocked or too broken about it…” I trailed off.
“When you told me about knowing about your mom, I knew it was just a matter of time.”
“Well okay then Mr. Smarty Pants!” I pushed him.
He looked up from his food and stared at me.
“You tell Liam yet?”
“Why does everyone just assume I wasn’t going to tell him?”
“Oh, I knew you would tell him. I just figured it would be last minute.” He smirked.
I rolled my eyes.
“Shut up. As a matter of fact, he’s coming with me.” This caused him to choke on his food.
“Excuse me?”
“Yep. We’re the very best of friends so I invited him.” He rolled his eyes.
“So he forced himself on you?”
“Yeah, and Louis.” I gave him a lop-sided smile.
“So two boys are out of the house? Thank the Lord!” He cheered.
I stood up from my seat. I went around to his back and hugged him from behind.
“You don’t hate me right?”
“Why would I hate you?”
“For leaving… For being a bitch… I don’t know.”
He turned in his seat to face me.
“Hey! I was like, your first friend ever! I could never hate you!”
“You were not my first friend! I have plenty!”
“So you got Louis, who is in love with you, so that’s not really a friendship. You got Liam, who, you love, but he doesn’t love you back. You got Niall, who is just there. Not really a friend, but you can talk to. Zayn and Harry care for you, but not really your friend…” He trailed off, making his point.
“Whatever!” I slapped him.
I wrapped my arms around him and kissed his cheek.
“Bring home a hot girl my age would you?” He whispered into my ear.
“Sure.” I giggled as I pulled away.
I waved at him, leaving the kitchen so he could finish his meal. I was off to find Niall, Harry and Zayn. I heard whistles and shouting coming from the back yard, so I figured my best bet was to look there.
Once I opened the screen door, a football came flying my way. I caught it with both hands before it hit my face. The boys burst out in laughter as I attempted to throw it back at them.
“Think that’s funny don’t you?” I snickered.
“Yes!” Harry groaned, taking a breath from laughing.
“Can I interrupt for just a second?”
“If you’re telling us you’re leaving, we already know. Louis already got to us.” Zayn smiled.
