The boys approached me slowly and they all broke into collective gasps at the scene. All of their faces were frozen in horror at the sight. Just as I was before. I took a tentative step forward towards Zayn. "Zayn." I don't know if he could hear me or if he just was ignoring me but I received no answer. I took another step. "Zayn."
Another step. I was close enough to touch him. Slowly, I reached out to grasp his shoulder. Zayn's response was instinctive. He whipped around and backhanded me. My body smashed through the wall into the opposite room. Shouts resounded. And black spots clouded my vision. I shook my head with vigor to try to see straight. I blink a couple of times and looked up to see midnight black panther stalking towards me. My eyes widened in shock. A black panther! Well, that wasn't here before.
But this panther was the size of an Alpha Werewolf. It was huge! He was as beautiful and majestic as it was lithe and deadly. His fur glistened in the light. With a blueish tint, it made the blackness of his fur hipnotic. My eyes traveled to his. They weren't brown. But not red either. More like an amber color. Fire. His eyes hold so much fire. But also hold so much pain, I couldn't fight back. That amount of pain in his eyes, halted my actions to defend myself.
The panther crouched low, ready to pounce. I shut my eyes and hung my head low, waiting for its claws to bury itself into my skin. Awaiting my sure death to get a hold of me. But it never did. Hesitantly, I opened my eyes to see another panther in front of me. But this panther was slightly smaller but its fur not exactly brown with a tint of gold. They growled back and forth. Almost as if it was a conversation in their own personal language. The door to the room jumped from it's hinges and flew into the opposite wall. My eyes flitted to meet Harry, Liam and Niall's concerned gazes.
"Hey! Boys calm down, now. Shift!" Liam yelled.
The panthers growled a little more in protest before my guardian one turned its head towards me. Startling blue eyes. Crystal clear blue. So beautiful and so...human? They padded across the floor away from me and shifted...into a very naked Zayn and Louis.
And I blacked out.
When I came too, voices slowly became louder and louder. And it sounded like a muffled argument. I raised my head and looked around. I was in a fluffy chocolate bed. with blue walls. A nightstand to my right and a lamp rested there. Along with some keys and a digital clock. "2:45pm?"
The room was shaded. There was not much light. So I went to the heavy curtains and pulled them back to reveal a bright light. If I wasn't...well me, I would have thought I was about to go to heaven. The light seemed that bright. I groaned as the headache clouded my judgement. I snatched a pair of sunglasses of the dresser and hurried to put them on. Okay, sensitivity to light? Check. Pounding headache.Check. Sunglasses. Check. All I need is the morning sickness.
Not knowing where I was, I followed the shouting voices down the hall to a room I supposed was the den. Louis and Zayn were going back and forth. Liam seemed to be angry at them both. Harry and Niall was in a heated discussion as well but it seemed separate from the others. So I focused on Louis and Zayn. "-you idiot. You could have killed her!"
"You don't think I know that! I had no control over my body! And it scares me to death what could have happened. But don't act like you didn't shift either."
"Well, I wasn't the one going on a killing spree."
"I wasn't-"
"Cool it, both of you. You guys blew everything and exposed Sephy to all this. She probably already has figured out we aren't werewolves. Now we have to tell her the truth. All of it."
I decided to speak up. "I doubt you even know how. And, I haven't figured out that part yet. But thanks for saving me the trouble."
All five heads swiveled to me. There was a blur before I was engulfed in a warm hug. I don't know how but I could tell it was Zayn. His tears ran into my shirt and he crushed me into his body. "I'm so sorry, Sephy. I really am. I so sorry. I could've-"
"Shhh. It's okay. You have had enough grief already." I sat him down on the couch before looking at Louis and Liam. "Which is why I want to know why you are all yelling at him. Obviously he's beating himself up about it. The boy just lost his mum! Get off it. Will you?"
Louis growled at me. "That doesn't excuse his actions. He would have killed you if I didn't intervene."
"And they exposed themselves to you." Liam added, putting his two cents in. Harry and Niall grew quiet.
"Yeah well the only thing I have to say to you guys is, Shit happens. Okay. I would like you guys to lose your parents and then come back to talk to me. You guys didn't see him the way I did. I could have easily fought back. And probably kill him but I didn't. Do you want to know why?" Silence wafted throughout the room. But I had everyone's attention. I looked at Zayn. "It was because of your eyes. Though on the surface they were a fire ready to consume all in its path...underneath I saw the pain and grief. I saw the guilt and anger at not stopping it from happening. I saw the 'what ifs' going through your brain. I saw myself, Zayn. That is why I couldn't kill you."
