The day
The morning sun, shining through my window wakes me up. I rub my eyes and move into a sitting position so that my hands support my torso. This is it, I'm 22. A smile forms on my lips at the thought while I scratch the back of my head.
I suddenly remember yesterday, my tears and anger, and a sad feeling rushes through my body. No. It's your day so you are going to cheer up and enjoy it. I encourage myself, making me feel better instantly.
Removing the sheets off my body, I crawl out of my bed, my feet meeting the cold floor.
I know I should be gone to school but it's college so it's up to me if I attend my classes or not. I always do, but today I decided to take the day off.
I step out of my room to the quiet apartment, assuming my roommates have already gone to school.
But they haven't, at least not both of them. There's Yoongi, the last person I want to see right now, in the kitchen, quietly eating cereal and drinking coffee.
"Good morning," he greets me at my arrival.
"Morning," I say back and continue to do my thing, making myself a breakfast.
I decide to prepare an omelette so I take a pan out of the cabinet and place it on the stove. While preparing the dish, my eyes shift to Yoongi again and again. Not because I hate him, I do so because I like him and I can't resist minding my own business while he's right there.
I glance in his direction once again, my sight doesn't catch him this time. Annoyed but happy about his leaving I lower my eyebrows, focusing back on the omelette. When it's done, I serve it on a plate and place it on the counter while I make myself a cup of tea.
"Y/N?" Yoongi's voice behind my back suddenly speaks a few minutes later, starling me.
"Gosh, you scared me," I complain and turn around, only to see him standing with a small box in his hands.
"Happy birthday Y/N," he says when I fully face him, his voice friendly and calm. He reaches out his hand to shake mine and I accept it. He smiles sweetly at me, his cheeks slightly tinted.
"Thank you Yoongi," I return him a smile and break the handshake.
The next thing he does is highly unexpected. He spreads his arms and wraps them around my torso, pulling me into a hug. I can't explain the amount of feelings that rush through my body at the action but there are mostly happiness, surprise and a tint of anger. My heart speeds up, my hands become cold and my body freezes. His touch is warm and friendly. A few seconds after, I hug him back, my hands resting at the back of his neck.
He pulls us apart, way to quickly for my liking, and hands me the box.
"I got you something," he says, flustered. He looks so adorable at the moment that I can't even be mad at him for not showing up tonight.
"You wouldn't have to," I humbly reply, a smile creeping up at the corners of my lips. He waves his hand, trying to gesture that 'it is necessary'.
I open the lid of the box, a USB sitting inside. I take it out, looking confused at it and then move the look to Yoongi.
"I saved a couple of my songs on it," he explains. "The ones I have played for you..." he hesitates for a second. "... and a new one that I wrote just for you."
My lips automatically spread into a huge, bright smile and my eyes fill with tears. I'm deeply moved. This is the best gift I have ever received. It's simple but very thoughtful and personal, everything that a perfect gift has.
