Poème de Notre Temps

Open your eyes,
What do you see?
The ceiling, your room,
And next to you, me.

It's twilight outside,
The air in here warm,
We could do this again,
Maybe at dawn?

Light kisses and giggles,
Wrestling and sleeping,
Enjoy it while you can,
In the morning we'll be weeping.

Making the room hotter,
Electricity and sparks,
Quiet stolen love,
Made here in the dark

This is where I am safest,
Being held in your arms,
I wish I could be here forever,
Me, you, lying here in the calm.

But time and fate laugh at us,
We know they aren't that kind,
And all too soon we are torn apart,
Left for our broken hearts find.

But I'll still think of you as you fly,
Wish you well in what you do,
And carry on, and wait for the day,
Where again, I hear you say "I love you".
