Being with Michael: Part 1 (Book Two)

Chapter Twelve

The Escalade whips up to the hospital entrance and Michael's out of it before the truck even stops.

He dashes into the hospital and up to the desk.

He begs with the nurses, "Where are they? Where's Paris and Paige?"

A doctor from down the hall calls him and he runs to him.

"Where are they? Are they okay?" He asks the doctor, frantic.

"Don't worry, they are both alive. Paris is in that room right there-"

Michael rushes into the room before the doctor even gets a chance to finish his sentence.

He finds Paris lying on the hospital bed and she calls out, "Dad! Thank God you're here!"

He pulls her into an abounding hug and asks, "Are you okay? Are you hurt?"

Paris assures him, "I'm fine, I'm fine! But it's not me, Dad. It's Paige, you need to go find her!"

Michael's heart stops at the sound of her voice and he darts out to find the doctor, "Where's Paige? I need to see her!"

The doctor, now with nurses following, tries to calm Michael down and says, "We can't let you see her yet."

Michael yells at him, "No, I need to see my wife! I need to know that she's okay!"

The doctor responds in a calm voice, "Michael, we have to tell you about her condition before we can allow you to see her."

Michael's concern turns into fear as he demands, looking among the nurses for a reaction, "What condition? She's okay, right?"

The doctor rests his hand on Michael's shoulder before saying, "She hit her head in the accident and her body was badly injured. There was severe trauma to the brain and right now she is unconscious in a coma. There's no telling when she'll be able to wake up, if at all."

Michael starts crying halfway through hearing this and shakes his head.

"No, she has to wake up! She has to! I have to go see her," he pleads with the doctor, trying to push past him.

The doctor stops him and adds, "There's one more thing."

Michael looks at him wondering what could be worse than what he's already been told.

The doctor explains, "Paige was pregnant, Michael, but the accident caused her to miscarry. It looks like she was only a couple weeks along."
