Being with Michael: Part 1 (Book Two)

Chapter Twenty Five

After Michael talks to Paris, he goes back to Paige's room.

It's hard to believe that just a few hours before she had been awake, but only for a few painful minutes.

Michael sits down beside his wife and he takes her hand in his and kisses her forehead.

He remembers Lockhart telling him that Paige might be able to hear what they say, especially since she has woken up from the original coma now.

"Our family is doing a fundraiser performance in three weeks for brain damage awareness," he tells her, "but of course you remember. You were so excited about it."

He pauses to look at her beautiful face and traces his finger across it.

"We'll be raising money for people who are in the same situation as us, they just don't have the money to pay for it," he continues, "I know you would like to be there, but Lockhart says you'll be here for four more weeks. Needless to say, I'll be busy with practice and won't be able to be here all the time. I want you to know I'll always be thinking about you and that I'm going to make sure you have company with you at all times."

Michael chokes up at the end.

He imagines her eyes opening as she wakes up and him being able to smile and lean down and kiss her.

But she's still unconscious and he's looking solely at her closed eyes.

"I could really use one of your pieces of wisdom right about now," he says, "What was the last one you told me?"

He has to think a little before remembering, "Oh, yeah. You said, 'Michael, remember to live as if it were your first day, not your last. That way you will always see the beauty in this world.'"

He wipes a tear away before it has the chance to fall.

He tells her, "Paige, I'm trying really hard to find the beauty in this situation. I'm really trying."

He looks around the room and spots the television.

He gets an idea, "I'll make sure the nurse turns on the TV during the performance so you can hear it. Does that sound like a good idea? I hope so..."
