her pets above
"i swear to god, i'm gonna kill you guys after school." i whisper angrily at my two pets, Hinata and Tsukki. Tsukki is a Japanese flying squirrel, while Hinata is a bushbaby. i had gone back to my dorm just before the end of lunch, to grab some lip balm because my lips are dying, and my pets were so excited to see me, they jumped onto my shoulders and refused to get off. if i had stayed a second longer, i probably would have been late for class.
so here i was, trying to conceal the two of them in my hair while i tried to listen to my language teacher explain something about punctuation. i already knew it all, but it wouldn't hurt to hear it again, would it? i was dying from the heat, but i couldn't put my hair up in a bun in an attempt to cool me down. because if i did that, Hinata and Tsukki would have nowhere to hide, and i would get killed for having them in class. i got a headache just trying to think of a way to fix this situation. i didn't have my jacket on, so i couldn't put them in the pockets.
i could feel my face heat up. i was embarrassed that i was in such a situation, and if anyone found out they would probably laugh and not help me. "(y/n), are you okay?" i heard from beside me. i turn to look at the source, and it had to be Kominato Ryōsuke who said that. "you're face is really red. is the heat getting to you?" he was concerned about me, and i felt my cheeks heat up even more. i just nodded my head wordlessly. i looked down at my paper, hoping he wouldn't notice the bump in the back of my neck behind my hair, where Hinata and Tsukki were clinging to me. "do you need to go to the nurse?" he asked me, and i shrugged. going to the nurse wouldn't be that bad, because i could get out of class and not even go.
he stood up very suddenly, and i felt one of the animals on the back of my neck panic and dig there claws into my skin. i winced at the pain. "i'm going to take (y/n) to the nurses office. the heat is making her sick." Ryōsuke said curtly, and i followed his actions, standing up as well. i gathered my things, and we exited the classroom. we walked slowly down the hall. we passed my locker on the way to the nurses office, and i put my things in it. a couple meters away from the nurses office, i paused in my steps.
"can you keep a secret, Ryōsuke?" i tested the waters. i didn't want the nurse to find out about Tsukki and Hinata, but i figured if he knew it wouldn't be that bad. we looked at each other, and he had a skeptical look on his face.
"let me guess, you aren't actually sick?" he said.
"well, yes, but there's something else," i say. he's definitely confused, but nodded his head. "pinkie promise you won't tell anyone?" i held out my hand, pinkie finger extended. he hesitated, but eventually wrapped his finger around mine and shook our hands.
i reached up to the back of my neck, and Tsukki jumped onto my hand, Hinata crawling onto my shoulder. Ryōsuke looked like he was about to yell, but i shushed him. "this is Tsukki, and that's Hinata." i said, gesturing to the two animals. he looked at me, surely a little shocked and all, but he didn't say anything. "you can pet them." i said, nodding to the two animals. he slowly reached out his hand, petting them tentatively. Hinata was quickly interested in Ryōsuke, jumping onto his arm and scurrying up his arm to his shoulder. he was a little startled, but quickly calmed down when Hinata rubbed his head against his cheek. i handed Tsukki to him, who was content to sit on his hand, and quickly put my hair up into a bun.
"why are they with you during school?" Ryōsuke asked, not at all worried by the fact that i have them anyway.
"they wouldn't leave me alone. i went to my dorm to get some lip balm at the end of lunch and they wouldn't get off my shoulder so i brought them with me to not be late." i explained to Ryōsuke, who nodded wordlessly. "you like them?" i asked, and he shrugged. "you're free to visit them whenever you have time. i'm dorm number xxx."
he smiled at me, and i grinned back. i think we're good now.
"i think i'll have to take you up on that offer, (y/n)-chan."

i hope you enjoyed this oneshot! i got the idea for her pets from a movie called 'Duma'. it's about a boy who raises a cheetah cub and has to take him back to where he was born, traveling alone with a man he meets because his father dies before they could take him back together. it's worth a watch.
