au; everything your soulmate loves appears on your wrist as a tattoo, including the people they love.third person limited following (y/n)
i mean, she doesn't really know what she was expecting. maybe that it'd be easier to find her soulmate? she doesn't know. but all she had on her wrist was a baseball bat. that was so vague and irritating. her parents have so many on their wrists, including themselves because their soulmate loved them. that was what she was hoping for.
practically everyone at my school loved baseball, and there were like ninety-something people on the team so it was a little difficult. she thought she could manage. she thought that it would be easier to pick your soulmate out from the crowd. but maybe they went to another school and played baseball there. maybe they weren't in high school anymore. she was a third year, and she was losing hope on if she'd find her soulmate here, or out in college or uni.
but the day she felt a prick on her wrist and saw another picture, she gave up for good.
the picture was of a girl who looked nothing like (y/n). her soulmate loved someone else, and she didn't know who it was. she recognized the girl as someone in her class, so she figured he went to her school. but it was such a let down.
she knew only one thing at that moment. she needed to talk to her soulmate, if only for a couple minutes.
so, with a heavy heart and a frown, she started asking around as to if anyone was dating Yuri, the girl on her wrist. she always got the same answer. "oh, you haven't heard? it's Yūki, from the baseball club! isn't she lucky?"
Yūki Tetsuya was her soulmate? holy shit.
so, when no one was looking, (y/n) slipped a small piece of paper into his shoe locker. she kept it short, even saying that she wouldn't keep him long because she knew he had practice and a girlfriend. it was urgent, meet on the rooftop after classes are over.
for the rest of the day, (y/n) was nervous and jittery. her leg bounced constantly, and she bit her nails.
when the final bell rung, she quickly shoved her books into her bag and made her way to the rooftop. she paced around, still thinking out what she should say. should she just straight up say, "hi, soulmate. how've you been?" . . . or not.
the door opened, and out walked Yūki.
"hello, Yūki," she said quietly. "i'm sorry for calling you up here so suddenly."
"you're the one who left the note in my shoe locker?" he asked bluntly, and she nodded. "alright. what do you need?"
his voice wasn't harsh nor demanding. he really was too good to be true.
"okay, i'm just gonna say it." she took a deep breath; in through the nose and out through the mouth. "Yūki, you're my soulmate."
he looked taken aback, for sure. "how do you know that?"
"you love baseball, right?" he nodded slowly. "and you love Yuri, right?" once again, he nodded. "those are the only two tattoos on my wrist. can i take a guess as to what's on yours?"
he looked down at his wrist and nodded again. "go ahead."
"sunsets," she started. "i love sunsets. and i love my orange cat Nikko. music, books, dancing. i love the sun and, of course, i love my parents. my dad has longer, wavy brown hair and is shorter than my mom, and my mom has straight blonde hair. is any of that on your wrist?"
he was silent for a moment, staring down at his wrist with careful concentration. "yeah," he said. "that's on my wrist."
"i'm sorry," (y/n) whispered. "i'm sorry your soulmate isn't Yuri. i'm not telling you this because i'm jealous or because i don't want you to date Yuri. if you're happy, you're happy, you know? who am i to take that away?
"you can keep dating Yuri, Yūki. i just wanted to meet my soulmate. and here you are and. . . you're perfect." (y/n) sniffed, wiping her eyes for the small tears that had gathered there. "that's all," she finished.
Yūki stared at her for a long while. he didn't say anything. he didn't sneer in her face and tell her that even if she was his soulmate, he loved Yuri. and he didn't break down like she was about to, nor did he tell her that he'll break up with Yuri to be with her; his soulmate.
"you can go now, Yūki. you have practice and a national title to win." he looked her in the eyes and saw tears, but he still turned away, silent. what could he say? "see you 'round, Yūki," (y/n) said softly.
as he walked down the stairs back into the school, he felt a prick on his wrist. when he looked down, right beside her parents he saw himself.
she loved him.
