third person limited following (y/n)

she had always had an intense hatred for liars. but she had never thought that Chris, of all people, would lie to her about anything.

it was obvious he wasn't fine. how could she not have picked up on it earlier? why hadn't she wondered where he went and why he left practice early? why hadn't she asked him, who seemed to have extremely good baseball sense and who always tried his best for the team, why he wasn't on the first string? if anyone deserved that, it was him.

but did she have to ask all those questions? shouldn't he have just told her? they had been dating for two months now. he didn't feel the need to tell her that he had gotten injured? that somethings put extra strain on his shoulder and he should try to avoid that? where he went when he left practice early? she would have gone with him, but she had manager duties and he had always said it was okay.

"what the hell, Chris?" she demanded once they were alone. she had been fuming all day. "why hadn't you told me you hurt your shoulder?!"

"it was never brought up," he said calmly. oh, he's pulling that card?

"so things like that need to be brought up instead of just being told? why didn't you tell me sometimes your shoulder hurts? i-i could have helped you!" now she was upset with herself. if she had noticed, maybe things would be different. if she had noticed, they wouldn't be having this conversation.

"(y/n), there is nothing that can be done by anyone apart from myself. don't you understand?" his voice was soft, gentle. it calmed her down some.

"you still could have told me." now she was crying; tears slipping down her cheeks. "you could have told me when we became friends. you could have told me when we started dating; on one of our dates. you could have told me before any game. but you didn't." why hadn't she noticed?

"it's not easy telling someone you're injured, (y/n). it's very difficult." he quietly stood up, walking over to her. he cupped her cheeks and wiped tears from her eyes with his thumbs. "i'm sorry for not telling you, (y/n). i really am."

"i'm sorry i didn't notice you were hurt earlier!" she wailed, burying herself into his arms. "i'm sorry, i'm sorry, i'm sorry."

he chuckled softly. "it's okay, (y/n). no more secrets?"

"no more secrets." she sniffed loudly and pulled away, holding up her pinky. he smiled, wrapping his pinky around hers and shaking.

she hated liars, so she vowed to never become one.
