third person limited following Mima POV

honestly, who even was (y/n)? he couldn't remember where he had met her. whether she was a classmate, peer or a fan first, he didn't know. but right now, she seemed more like an enemy than anything else.

"Mima, if you hit the ball towards another place, it gives the runner on second more time to steal!" she called to him, clearly frustrated.

"i just plan on hitting the ball, (y/n)! no aiming, really."

"but if you hit it over there—"

"as i said, no aiming, really! jeez, i just focus on returning the ball. that always seems to be enough anyway. everyone says i'm an aggressive batter. i'm good enough as i am." he was exasperated, to tell you the truth. she was always commenting things to 'make him a better batter', even when she had probably never played in an actual game before. she was just a manager; nothing more, nothing less.

"if you would just li—"

"no." his answer was firm, leaving no room for discussion. but it never really worked like that with (y/n). she marched over to him, grabbed him by the wrist and dragged him away from the field, towards the dorms.

"i'll bring him back in tip-top condition, sir!" she said to his coach. she didn't seem to mind the looks she got at all, and she ignored the coaches weak calls for her to come back completely.

she dragged him to a secluded walkway, shielded from sight by two buildings.

"i'm don't want to be here," he told her harshly. "my batting is perfectly fine."

"no. you are going to listen to me, and you're going to listen well." she let go of his wrist and held her hands at her sides, fists clenched. "there is no 'i' in team, Mima. plain and simple. you can't do everything by yourself."

"i wasn't trying to do that!" he was getting worked up, and sorta for good reason. but she wasn't really having it today.

"bullshit!" she exclaimed, tone extremely unhappy. "you were trying to play by yourself. as if there is no possible way that your batting can help the team. you need to do one little thing, Mima. try and aim the ball a bit in a different direction than the runner. to give them more time to steal. you should know very well how much our team relies on stealing bases."

"our team? really, (y/n)? you're not even on the team! you're just a manager!" that hit home. just a manager? does he know how much she's done for the team? help prepare meals, help at practice, help players with their studies. clean up after practice, help out a shit ton at training camps. keep score of everything during games. you know how hard it is to do all that by yourself? she's the only manager for the team.

"right. i'm just a manager. i don't do anything for the team. sure. hey, Mima? what do you think i do as a manager?" she was shaking her head, looking down at her feet. was this really happening? he looked at her, confused.

"i don't know. clean up?"

"that's it? all i do is clean up after you guys? you're more dense than i thought." she laughed bitterly. "i care about the team, Mima. i care about every single person. i care about their grades, their condition, their eating habits. are they eating enough? how's their practice? do i need to help them with any homework? you might be 'Mr. Perfect', but a lot of those people aren't. i care about everyone, even you. as much as i hate you right now."

he was stunned into silence. she did all that? how did she manage? maybe she was stronger than he thought.

"so, i thought it would be nice of you to do just a little something for the team you play with everyday. i guess i was asking too much. see you around, Mima." she brushed past him, and he watched her go.

who even was (y/n)? he'd never really thought about it. whether she started out as a classmate, peer or fan, he wasn't sure. but right now, she was definitely interesting. and a little scary. but he'd be damned if he ever told anyone that ever.
