"Am I obsessed with you?" - Miley Cyrus
I laughed. "I'd probably fall asleep after twenty minutes."
"And I'd bring you home," Luke grinned widely.
"No, do not bring me home. I hate sleeping on the coach."
"You sleep on a coach?"
I nodded and continued to watch the lady scan through the racks of clothes.
"What kind of boyfriend does Paula have?" He asked like it was obvious that Rob was already half-witted to him.
"I don't know. He's just crazy, and lazy."
"Does he even have a job?"
"Nope."
"Well, doesn't that suck? At least Paula does."
"Yeah. She'd go all the way to LA for us to survive."
"She has a job in LA?"
"She goes there every few months to talk about things with her editor."
"Mmm, when is she going?"
"She already left this morning."
"So, you have Robert's house all to yourself or what?"
"No, I have to stay with Rob. I swear he's gonna be so mad when I come home."
"Why would he be?"
"He told me to buy him beer right before Danielle called me to take over."
"Seriously?! That man needs to get a life."
The lady walked up to us and set her pile of clothes on the counter. I typed in the prices and she gave me the amount I enumerated.
After the lady left, the store was completely empty. But I knew a customer was gonna walk in anytime soon.
"For how long has Paula been dating this guy?" Luke asked.
"I don't know. All I know is that she once cheated on my father."
"Ouch."
"Yeah, I nearly had a heart attack when I found out."
"Did your father find out?"
"Yeah."
"I can't imagine how that must feel."
After Danielle came back, Luke took me out for the longest walk after we dropped his mom's car off back at his place. He bought some snacks and drinks and we hiked for almost three hours.
It was cold but nice out. We found a lake in the middle of nowhere and sat by the margin. We ate quietly and stared out at the commodious lake.
We finished eating when Luke's phone lit up and vibrated. He had it sitting on the grass between us.
"Hey, Mom," he answered.
I couldn't hear what she was saying because of the whisking air currents.
"Yeah, I don't think I'll be home in like three or four hours," Luke answered her.
After he hung up, he put his phone back on the ground and left it on.
"They want you back home?" I asked.
"No, they were just wondering who I was spending my entire Saturday with."
"Oh."
I was staring at Luke's phone and felt tempted to see if he had any images of his ex-girlfriend, so I seized his phone in my hands and touched the photos app.
