Chapter 37: Court

"Someday soon your whole life's gonna change." - Kesha

"Sasha?" I said aloud, hoping she would appear.

"Sasha?" I spoke a little louder.

I started to panic again. I checked the everyone room on the top floor, waking everyone else up in the meantime.

I ran down the stairs and checked every room until I reached the bathroom.

I opened the closed door and someone knocked me down right on my back. I breathed a huge sigh of relief when I saw Sasha land right on top of me.

"Oh, thank the Lord," I sighed.

"Yeah, no shit," she agreed.

"What's going on?" I wondered.

"I almost thought you got kidnapped when I found out you weren't sleeping next to me when I woke up."

"I almost thought the same thing when I didn't see you in bed."

She stood up, and I hopped onto my feet after her.

"Where were you?" She asked.

"I was taking a walk to clear my head, there's been so much going on lately."

"Do you wanna talk about it?"

"I just really wanna get the full story of your life."

"So do I, and I want yours as well."

I shifted in discomfort. I hated talking about the past, but I knew eventually I would have to.

"One day, I'll tell you. I promise. For now, let's just get some sleep for tomorrow."

We sat at the very front, waiting for him to speak.

The judge sat at the left while Robert sat lower on the right, a microphone in front of him.

"Is it true that Mr. Castillo was the first one you killed?" The defendant asked.

Robert hesitated to respond. "Yes."

I held my breath.

"Explain why you killed him."

"Me and Paula were high school sweethearts. Her parents didn't approve of us being together, so she dumped me to find a better man," Robert explained.

I gasped.

"So when I found out they were married, I was furious. Then, one day, I found him alone, I thought that would be my chance."

I saw Luke's teeth clenched together.

High school sweethearts.

My mother and Robert were....

high school sweethearts?

This was... unbelievable.

"How exactly did you kill him?"

"I saw him fishing and I didn't have to think twice before I pushed him into the water."
