I gasped for air when my eyes flew open.
"Sasha! You okay?" Chris landed his hands on my shoulders.
I took a few deep breaths to calm down.
"I remember," I murmured. "I remember what Jesse did."
He breathed. "Took you long enough."
"No wonder I'm broken," I complained.
"Yeah, you will be for quite a while."
"How long?"
"Well, it's February so, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September..." he glanced at his fingers as he counted each month. "About eight months."
"Are you kidding me? I can't stay trapped for that long!"
Chris sighed. "I'm sorry."
"Ugh! What do I do?"
"Hey, hey." Chris caressed my arm. "You can spend all of your time with me."
I narrowed my eyes. "All?"
"Yeah, I mean, until you have to go back to school."
"With a wheelchair. How embarrassing. Now way!"
"Well, then you'll just have to wait until July or August to start walking again and wait until September to start school as a normal person and not in a wheelchair."
"I'm going to miss this whole damn semester!"
"Sasha, calm down. Your friend Gabrielle told me her and her friends will pick up everything you need to catch up for this semester. And I'll help you through it."
"No, you suck at school."
He laughed. "Except for math. And I can help you with that because I know you suck at math."
"How do you know that?"
He ignored my question. "Speaking of math, I've got some right here."
He walked over to my desk and grabbed my algebra text book. "I'll make you a deal."
"Like what?"
"I'll help you with math under one condition."
My eyes narrowed. "And that is?"
"You help me get to one of your friends."
I stared at him for a while and then I snorted. "Wait, what?"
He smirked, waiting for an answer.
"You can't be serious!"
Her was still leering at me.
"Seriously? If you're trying to fall in love with one─"
"Oh, I already have," he interrupted.
"Who with?"
"I'll tell you once you promise me you'll help me get to her."
I cocked my view at him. "Okay, deal."
"Great. Let's begin."
"Wait."
"What?"
"You never told me where Luke was."
