"Somebody give me a sign, I'm starting to lose faith." - Machine Gun Kelly
We sat on the grass in front of the abolished house. The only thing that was left was the garage.
"I'm sorry we couldn't find the bracelet," Luke apologized.
My luck was extinct.
I put my head on his shoulder, letting the tears discharge from my eyes and knowing that I had nothing left that'll remind me of my father. Absolutely nothing. Just memories that swam around my head.
"I'm so stupid," Luke muttered quietly. "I gotta learn to have some self control. Watch what I'm saying to others, especially my loved ones."
I didn't know what I was supposed to say so I kept silent.
"I know I screwed up and I regret anything I ever said to anyone who actually really cared about me. Especially you, Sasha."
More waterworks slid down my cheeks as he said those compassionate words.
"You're so quiet when you're sad," Luke mumbled.
"It's gone," I whimpered. "My only hope when bad things happen, it's gone."
He sat up straight and placed his hands on the sides of my face. "I wish I could tell you I'll make a new one but I have a feeling it won't feel the same one your father made. But what I know I can do is that I can promise you I'll protect you, and I'll make them pay for what they did."
I knew what he was talking about. He wasn't going to let Chris and his gang get away with what they did. Even if they hadn't burned our house to pieces, Luke was still planning to get his revenge on them for almost killing me.
"You're not moving back to Florida, are you?" He asked after five minutes passed.
"I don't know. Paula never said anything," I managed to choke out.
"How's her boyfriend treating you?"
"He doesn't seem all that interested in me."
"Doesn't act like a father to you?"
"Not really. He drinks a lot though," I answered, remembering last night when Paula was outside sorting things out with the police.
"That's disgusting."
Luke stood up. "We better head back before Paula finds out you didn't go to school today."
"Yeah, we should."
We walked silently back to Robert's house, not saying much.
I opened the door to his house, the sound of glass shattering filling my ears. I sauntered down the hall and found Rob laying on the living room coach. The floor was filled with broken glass.
"There you are." The way his voice sounded told me he was obviously drunk. "You didn't tell me where you were this morning."
"I told Paula I was at Luke's," I said nervously.
"You know you have no permission to go anywhere unless you ask me, alright?" He threw another empty bottle on the floor.
"Um, okay. Is Paula still at work?"
"Duh."
"Mmm..." I started to walk back down the hallway.
"Hey, Sasha! I need you to clean this up before she comes home!"
Was he serious? I turned back around and stood in the living room doorway.
"Where's the broom?" I asked.
