Chapter 24: Promises

When I vowed Sasha I would stay, I was lying, sort of.

I hated myself for promising something I knew I wouldn't keep. But seeing Sasha in so much pain, I couldn't help myself to. I wanted to tell her the truth. Her beautiful sad face made me promise her something I wouldn't keep and break her heart.

Yes, I'm that stupid.

It's been a whole week since I first visited Sasha at the hospital and I was now at the airport, about to buy a ticket back to Los Angeles.

Sasha was released yesterday from the hospital but I haven't seen her ever since.

"Luke?!" A familiar voice shouted.

I looked around to see who was calling me and found Chris making his way towards me.

"What the hell? How'd you even find me?"

He chuckled. "Sasha asked me to look for you because she wanted to talk to you."

"Uh..." I didn't know what kind of excuse I could give to him to pass on to Sasha.

"I don't know what part of me told me you might be here. Oh wait, I know, because you're a dick."

I needed to break something at the moment.

"Breaking promises? Very unlike you, Luke. Sasha's going to be heartbroken." Chris shook his head.

"Oh, shut up, Chris," I demanded when I didn't know what else to say.

"Got an excuse?" He raised an eyebrow.

"I can't stay, okay? I need to go back to work and earn money for college. Plus, she has you and Jesse."

That asshole. Jesse. I was still mad at him, but more angry with myself for leaving Sasha alone with him.

I started trusting Chris more because he was really showing Sasha and her mother how sorry he really was. But Jesse was someone I could never completely trust.

"Me and Jesse are nothing like you. She loves you, Luke."

I snorted. "Yeah? Did she tell you to tell me that?"

He sighed. "I can tell she does."

"Luke──"

"What Chris?! She deserves a much better guy than me."

"You're such an idiot! How can you leave a girl heartbroken? And Sasha, of all people?"

"Excuse me?!" An old lady yelled from behind me.

"I gotta go."

"Luke──"

"A ticket to LA," I told the man at the desk.

I turned around slightly to see Chris' angry face before he began to gait out of the the airport.

"You'll regret it!" He shouted right before the glass door slammed shut.

I knew he was right.

Sasha

Chris charged into my room and slumped on top of my bed.

"Where is he?" I was really starting to get worried.

Chris didn't say anything for a long time, and I knew that meant it wasn't good news. The doorbell downstairs rang and Chris sprinted down the steps to get it.
