A little trying

"Mag.....num....Op...us...."

"Yes, that's right! You truly are learning! Good job!"

The young woman smiled, beaming proudly at the two young children in front of her.

She was quite fond of them.

Afterall, they were her ultimate creations.

The joining of parts of her, and her dear.

The children that were supposed to be impossible for the two to have.

"Can you tell me what that means?" Asked their mother, her lips twitching rapidly upward.

"Magnum opus.....The pinnacle of creation. Magnum Opus, perfection realized."

Said the second cleverly, her words clear and precise. She didn't sound too far from her mother when she had first arrived on earth, baring quite the resemblance to her in appearance as well, long, curled honey brown locks falling comfortably down her shoulders, her eyes bright and full of observation, going on before anything else could be said.

"This is important because you view us as your ultimate creations. Hence the reasoning for our names."

Vera nodded.

"Yes, very good, Opal."

"Show....off....." Muttered the first, having developed a bit slower than his sister, taking more after the one who had made them, his hair black and short, crimson eyes beaming on his counterpart, who merely stared at him with her eyebrow raised.

"Show-off:One who, as implies, flaunts their own skill excessively in the face of others. I suppose that would be accurate. That, or you're simply annoyed that you're still an illiterate." Said Opal coolly, much to her brother's annoyance. "Shall I explain that to you, as well?"

"Magna Knows...what...illiterate...means!"

His sister merely raised her brow higher.

"Really? What an improvement. It seems you know that, at least."

Her brother then scowled, vindictive spite swirling into his eyes.

"Oh...yeah...? Magna...have word...for you....Butt-face. Definition...."

He smirked.

"Opal."

"Why you-"

"Children, please!"

Vera finally chimed in, sighing.

"Magna started it." Opal said simply, her eyes trained hard on Magna, brow quirked.

"No he didn't...." His eyes glowed, dangerously familiars specks of red threatening to spill from his eyes. "But Magna will start /something/-"

"You two, please-"

"I have no time for this....If we're done, mother, I'll be going. "

With that, the girl walked off, leaving her brother.

And there he sat, shaking and trembling with anger and emotion, the threads wrapped naturally around his arms beginning to glow along with his dripping eyes.

"Shut up...Shut...up....Just....shut up...."

Before he could mutter another shaky word, his mother embraced him, holding the son most like her close as she rubbed his hair, rocking until he began to calm.

"It's alright....It's fine.....There is no need to be upset....Your mother is here for you...."

"Mama.....Her voice.....Stuck in Magna's head....Stuck.....She treats Magna likes he's stupid...Like she's better than he is....Magna isn't stupid...He isn't.....He-"

"Vera knows that already, Magna. And I'm sure your sister does too."

"She doesn't act like it...."

"No, she doesn't. Vera would know a bit about that. Your second mother, my dear Magi, was just like her as a child. Maybe a little less severe, but...just about. But, severity and all, she saved Vera. She set her free and ended her loneliness, ended the voices, and the sorrow, and the pain. And, Vera helped her too. So, dear Magna, Vera thinks that's all it takes. Just a little trying."

"That's.....all...?"

"That's all. Morale of the story...."

She grinned.

"Your mother was a butt too."
