Elevator out

Welp, here's a new one. Leeeet's go!

"Ah....Ugh....."

Fire.

"Ngh....."

Flames.

Rubble.

"What.....?"

Smoke and ash.

Hands. My hands. I was....looking at my hands.

Well, as best I could, anyway.

It could've been the haze, but I could swear they were caked in a sea of crimson; or was, dried and brittle from time.

"Blood......? But...."

I blinked the haze from my eyes, pulling myself to my feet with a grunt.

I needed to get moving. I couldn't stay here.....where-ever I was.

I hobbled forward, before falling.

"Ugh...!"

I stood again, continuing forward.

I needed....to get moving.

I feel yet again, and pulled myself right back up.

Again.

And again.

And again.

My vision was hazy again.

I was losing my sight.

Blackness.

"...No...."

I pushed it back,

"I....can't...."

I forced it away.

"Gotta....push through...."

I couldn't give in yet.

"Gotta....."

I didn't know why, but I did.

My will, which seemed to come from nowhere, over-rid my body.

It was perfectly clear.

I'd crawl away on hands and needs if need-be.

I was surprised by my own resolve, and found a strange question taking's it place: "Was this really me?"

It was so strange, yet.....

Oddly, it made sense to me.

This will....This resolve.....couldn't be natural.

Right now, broken and battered, I had the strength to carry on.

I did.

I pushed myself, forcing myself forward. I felt my heartbeat, screaming against my chest the further I went. Where was I going...?

How was I going to get out of here?

I needed....to get out of here.......

I couldn't stay here.....

Yet another bit of resolve I couldn't explain.

I didn't even know where I was, yet I knew I couldn't stay.

The pieces to the puzzle didn't fit, and nothing made sense....

Where was I? What happened? And why was I here?

I didn't know. But I needed to stay awake, and I needed to rid myself of this rubble.

Where was I even going?

I still didn't know......

I just kept crawling...Kept pushing forward until my hands felt....cold....I no longer felt the gravel....this was....metal....hard and cold.....I pulled myself further onto the metal, as far as I could go, until my back leaned against it.....

The instant I had, a vast feeling of relief filled my frame.

"I made it.....I'm gone....Gone from this place.....I'm never going back......"

Another thought I couldn't justify, but found solace in thinking.

I found myself looking back to my hands, feeling the blood pump through my veins, and change....morph...become something new that couldn't be explained.....

DING!

"Huh?"

A sudden chime.

It jolted me out of my thoughts, and cast the strange things I'd been thinking aside.

I looked back to my hands.

They were fine. Completely unordinary.

......What was it I'd been thinking before?

Regardless, the place I had so badly wanted to escape had disappeared, behind two silver doors, a light filling the space in which I found myself as I was carried....away......

I knew what this was.

I was on an elevator.

An elevator that'd take me from whatever this place was.....to safety.

It'd only get better from here.
