It's been eight months. Eight months since he had found her in that alleyway, eight months since he last heard her voice, eight months after he lost her. And in that timespan, he had somehow managed to forget about the girl for two.

Promoting into Sophomore year, tests, studying, his friends, all had him tied up and busy. He didn't have to time to visit her as much as he should've and the fact that Norman Osborn had men posted by her hospital room to make sure Peter wouldn't go near her wasn't helping.

And even as Spider-man he couldn't see her. They had locked her windows shut and drew the curtains, hiding her away from the public eye.

It's August 2nd. Two days after he had saved countless numbers of people from the blazing fires in the demolished Oscorp building. Police and firemen reposted it as a gas leak but some say it was no accident.

Being there made him remember her but it also took a toll.

Peter Parker stares at the head in front of him in a complete and devastating trance. He grips his pencil in his hand with a tight clench. The test in front of him is gone in his peripheral vision as his eyes only look ahead.

His mind races with flashback and past memories of the girl he forgot. The guilt sets in stone in his chest and buries it's way through his heart.

The constant pain before hand had somehow morphed his mind to forget her for a couple months, relieving him of any more sadness.

He was busy reassuring Aunt May when he would go out being Spider-Man, making sure Ned wouldn't expose his secret identity, and getting through Sophomore year to even think about Madeline.

But now, just two days ago when he was standing outside the hospital after saving multiple people as Spider-Man, the memories came flooding back all at once.

To say the least, it was eating him alive to the point where he felt fatigued—unable to even go back out as his hero-ego due to the lack of energy.

He had stopped cramming for his usual tests in classes and rarely payed attention during lectures. The whole time, he was guilt-ridden—wanting to crawl up in a hole and stay there for forever.

Peter even found out her sixteenth birthday was on May 3rd; and he missed it.

He was supposed to be supportive, there for her when she needed him most. But he ended up breaking his own promise to her, and for that, he became broken himself.

The deep thoughts are suddenly interrupted when Peter hears a snapping sound come from his hand. He blinks, eyes watering from staring too long, and looks over to see that the pencil he was gripping onto had snapped in two.

Michelle Jones looks over to him from doodling on her test—seeing his blank, expressionless, reaction. She knew something was up with him, and she was too smart to not know that it had to be important if Peter Parker zoned out during a test. He usually zooms through Algebra tests, but today she knew something wasn't right.
