Peter stirred awake to the slow sound of a car engine. His eyes fluttered open and he tried to remember where he was. He was in the backseat of a car with Happy in the drivers seat and Tony in the passenger's.

That's right. They ran away from Norman and his men.

Relief flew over him when he glanced at
the weight on his shoulder. Madeline was sound asleep with her bandages up hands curled tightly under her arms. She was leaning against the boy, her breathing steady and an occasional shiver would make the hairs on her arms stand up.

Peter naturally put an arm around and pulled the girl close—trying to keep her warm. A thought occurred to him; what if she was still mad at him? What if this was the last time he was allowed to hold her?

He looked outside and the sun was already going down into an orange sunset. How long have they been driving? Where were they going?

"Pull 'round here," he hears Tony say in front of him. He looks out his window to see lit up gas station. Happy does as told and pulls in to park.

"The kids still asleep?" Tony asks. Peter quickly rests his head and shuts his eyes, pretending to be sleeping.

A long pause occurs and Peter tries his best to stay still and calm.

"Out like a light," Happy says, "want me to wake them up?"

"Nah, let them rest. They're probably exhausted. Stay here, this might take a bit."

The sound of Tony's car door opens and shuts, Peter guesses he stepped out and went in the gas station.

The boy slowly opens his eyes to peek if Happy was still there—he was—but he shifted around, making himself comfortable, and heavily sighing.
He guessed Happy was exhausted as well.

Peter silently looked for Tony outside his window and spotted him walking around the corner of the run-down store and disappearing in the shadows.

He immediately felt like something was going on and had the urge to find out what Tony was doing.

He carefully slid his arm off of Madeline, propping and balancing her head against the seat. When he was successful and the girl seemed like she was sleeping still, he turned to sneak out his side of the car door. But once he faced it, he saw the silver lock snap down.

"Where do you think you're going?" Happy groans from up front.

Peter panicked and clears his throat before stuttering out an answer, "I wasn't—uh, I was just—I need to use the bathroom, can I use the bathroom?"

Happy opens one eye and gives him a tired 'I don't believe you' look through the rear view mirror.

"You can when he gets back. For now, you're staying here."
