MARY: All right, I got it this time, I got it-

REMUS: Fire away.

MARY: Watch and learn, Lupin.

MARY arches her wrist and tosses a smooth stone across the surface of a calm lake. The stone skips over the still water several times before sinking below.

MARY: Ha! Beat that, Prefect boy.

REMUS: (grabbing another stone from the ground) Come on, I thought you said you weren't jealous.

MARY: Me? Jealous? You think I want to be Prefect? Is that some kind of sick joke?

REMUS: I don't know, you seem pretty good at bossing people around. (He tosses another stone, which skips across the water a couple times as well).

MARY: Well, I am, but I'm also not in the mood to be responsible for first-years and all their nonsense. God, it sounds like a nightmare.

REMUS: I think I can handle it. (He kneels down and carefully runs his hand across the cool water).

MARY: So Lily did end up getting it, then?

REMUS: Yeah. We were all expecting her to get it.

MARY: Of course. Who were they gonna give it to, Marlene?

REMUS: (laughing) Yeah, I guess it'd be a freak show with her in charge.

MARY: (sitting down next to REMUS and gazing out into the hot summer afternoon) This year's gonna be the best one yet. I can feel it.

REMUS: Oh, yeah?MARY I have a sense about these things. Just you wait.
