Chapter Five

Serena

It was 10pm already and Emily's dad didn't show up. We already ate anyway.

"I have to get going" I stood up from her bed while she was sulking on the couch

"I'm really sorry, I didn't know he was working late" she said

"Its no problem, Em, just send my greetings to him when he gets back"

"I’ll do that" she said as I got to the door

"Hey I should pick you up tomorrow so we could drive to school together"

"Okay thanks"

"You don't need to thank me all the time, Serena"
I smiled.

  I wrote down my address and gave it to her before leaving the house.

I got home minutes later and heard sobbing from the kitchen.

"Mom?" I called out and the sobbing stopped. I went into the kitchen, her back was faced to me she then turned to me.

"Hi honey" she forced a smile. Her eyes were red and puffy.

"Hey mom" I looked with concerned eyes

"Have you had anything to eat?"

"Yeah, I had dinner at a friend's house" I told her

"Okay I'll be going to bed"

"Mom why were you crying"

"It's just allergies baby" she said and left

Mom was only allergic to cats and we had no cats. It was obviously the money problems and I can't sit here and do nothing.

I'm getting a job tomorrow.

I heard a horn which was from Emily's car outside, and was so surprised that she was early. I was already dressed though.

I went out to meet her.

Alex was coming out the same time I was, he was shirtless and was not ready for school.

I waved at him while he gave me a cocky grin before I got into Emily's ride.

She removed her shades while staring at him.

"Who's that hottie" she asked

"Last time I checked, you had a boyfriend" I said buckling up.

She drove off

"I can still admire" she smirked.

"Well he's a friend and he's not hot, as a matter of fact your boyfriend is hotter"

She gasped dramatically "You think my boyfriend is hot, I better hold on to him tighter" 

We laughed as she pulled over at a coffee shop.

"I always get coffee every morning before school, want some?"

Her smile turned into a horrified expression.

I followed her gaze and she was looking into the coffee shop through the glass where a man and a woman were kissing.

"That's my dad" she explained.

"So your mom is back then"

"That's not my mom" she whispered on the bridge of tears.

"Oh" was all I could say

"So this was all he was doing last night"

"Em.." I trailed off "There might be a reasonable explanation for this"

"For kissing another woman" she said in tears.

Her dad looked out the window and saw us, he had a panic expression on his face.

"Let's just go" I said to her.

She started the car again and sped off.

I looked over at her. Tears were falling uncontrollably.

She stopped in front of a bank, placed her head on the steering wheel and sobbed more and more.

"It's okay" I patted her back

"What am I gonna do, Serena?" she cried

"Why do you have to do anything??"

"Should I tell my mom or what?"

"No, you should talk to your dad first, hear what he has to say"

"I don't want to hear anything from him" she said angrily "he's ruining our family"

"He's still you dad and you should talk to him"

She hesitated for a while "Okay I will, thanks"

She gained her composure and fixed her make up.
And after that we continued heading to school.

We got to school very late but didn't hear any bell or warning bell.

But classes had started so we tried to sneak in, the teachers back was face to the class.

We almost got to our seats.

"Where do you two think you're going"

"Um our seats" Emily said and we laughed nervously.

"You are both late" she stated the obvious "any reason why you are late to class?"

There was no reason.

"Detention after school" she said again and we groaned before sitting down.
