Chapter Twenty-Three

I got to school pretty late because I woke up so late, courtesy of Lucas and his midnight calls.

I entered English class and had to sit at the back since there wasn't any reasonable seat left, Lucas came in minutes later and sat beside me. I smiled at him.

"How was your night" he asked me.

"Like I had one" I rolled my eyes playfully.

We continued chatting while English class was going on which was very unhealthy, Lucas was a big distraction and I have to stay away from him. Like that will ever happen.

After class we stood up to leave and Lena spoke up from her seat. I didn't even notice she was in this class, which should be a good thing right?.

Everyone turned to her.
"I can't find my laptop and I need to search everyone" she was sobbing. Lucas held an amused smile while I rolled my eyes knowing this was all fake.
She was rich as hell and could always buy 100 other laptops so why would she cry over one.

One of her friends came to me, while the rest searched others.
"I need to search your bag" she said to me.

"Be my guest" I gestured to my bag on the chair.

She opened it to began searching and in seconds retrieved a black Mac book with pink stickers on it.
I don't own a laptop, that must be Lena's. How did it get in my bag.

My eyes widened in surprise, I turned to Lucas and he had the same horrified look on his face.

"Hey Lena, I've found the thief" her friend called out and everyone turned to me in shock.

"N-No I didn't take that"

Lena came over to me folding her arms.
"Lena, why would I take your laptop?" I said to her.

"I don't know, maybe cos you're so poor and can't afford it. C'mon you're here on scholarship who else would steal it"
Everyone started murmuring.

A tear fell from my eye and I cursed it immediately.

"Hey hey Lena," Lucas cut in "You know she wouldn't take your laptop"

"Then mind explaining how it got in her bag"

Lucas sighed and looked at me with concern.
"See Lucas you're a nice guy and you don't deserve a thief like her" she said again.

I looked at her, tears streaming down my face.
"I am not a thief" I said with clenched teeth while everyone still gathered watching the free movie.
I spotted Emily giving me a disappointed look, of course she would believe Lena she's stupid like that.

Lucas squeezed my shoulders.
"You know what Lena, just drop it you got the laptop back" Lucas said to her.

"No, I'm not dropping this" she said quickly "This is going to the principal, she needs to be punished for this"
She walked away, the crowd clearing as she did.

I was too caught up in my tears to utter a single word. Lena did this I'm sure of that but when and how. I didn't even feel the laptop in my bag.
Lucas pulled me in for a hug as everyone left the class.

"It's okay" he said.

"Just take me home, please" I managed to say and he didn't protest.

We drove in silence and different thoughts ran in my head, my head hurt too.
I woke up this morning feeling giddy and happy, who knew this day would turn out to be like this.

Emily even believed I could do such a thing, why did I think she was different from the rest.

We reached my house and I went up to my room snuggling in my duvet suddenly feeling cold.
Lucas sat beside me on the bed.

"Serena, I don't like seeing you like this.. everything will be ok"

I just lay there shivering and he felt my forehead.
"Shit, you have a fever" he said and I wasn't surprised.
"I need to get you to a hospital"

"I'll be fine" I said weakly.

"No, this is serious, where do you keep the drugs in the house"

"Downstairs beside the kitchen cabinet"

He left and came back minutes later with a tray containing a bowl of water and clean towel, a hot plate of soup and some asprin.

"Lucas you shouldn't have-"

"Let me"

I drank the soup without protesting again while he pressed the cold towel to my head and neck.
I felt better after it and took the drugs.

He lay next to me on the bed and I snuggled to his chest.
"I didn't take her laptop" I said quietly.

"I know"

"But no one else does, not even Emily"

"Well I do and that's all that matters" he said and kissed my hair.

"What do you think the principal will do about this" I looked at him.

He shrugged "Whatever happens I'll be right beside you"

I smiled a little and looked down "Thank you very much Lucas, and Lena was right I don't know what I did to deserve you"

He tilted my chin to look into his eyes "Lena is never right and you deserve me as much as I deserve you"

I smiled and he kissed me softly on the lips.
"I love you, Serena" he said and I panicked.

OMG, he said he loves me, what should I do or say. Do I love him back?? Of course I do.

"You don't have to-" he tried to say.

"I love you too" I cut in and his eyes shone and that was what I wanted.
