Chapter Thirty-One

The next day while I was studying after school, mom poked her head into my room.
"Alex is here to see you" she said

"Why"

She looked at me like I've grown a second head.
"He's your best friend"

I just realized mom didn't have an idea of what was going on.
"Yeah. Right" I replied and she left.

I stood up and went downstairs after straightening my hair.

Alex was relaxed on the couch and when he saw me, he stood up.

We haven't talked since his fight with Lucas and now Lucas and I were over, he shows up. Coincidence much.

"Hey"

"Hi" he replied, his hands in his pocket.

"Sit, what's up"

We sat side by side on the couch
"I don't know, we haven't talked in weeks. I just wanted to know, are we good?"

"I guess" I shrugged.

"I'm sorry about how I punched Lucas the other day, I should've come to apologize sooner"

"It's all good"
Why am I so nice.

"How is he?"

"Good I think, we broke up" I replied simply.

He didn't look shocked but pretended to "What happened?"

"I don't want to talk about it"

He nodded.
"I remember the days we tell each other everything, I just wonder how things turned out to be this way"

"Yeah I wonder"

"I just want you to know, I care about you very much"

Once again I felt bad. What is happening to me.

Before I realized what was going on, his lips were on mine. I widened my eye in surprise and the door clicked open.

I pushed him off me immediately and looked towards the door, at who came in.
It was Lucas.
What the hell, how is this happening.

Lucas turned and left the house after looking at me like a terrible person of course.

"Is this some kind of sick joke?" I stood up glaring at Alex.

"I like you Serena, I always have"

"Well I'm sorry I don't have any feelings for you, hell you have been my best friend"
Well that must hurt.

He looked at me sadly "But since you're no longer with Lucas, you can give us a chance"

I sent him daggers.
"Have I ever given you the impression that I liked you"

No answer

I continued "If I have then I'm sorry, you're just a friend"

He stood up, then looked at me one last time before leaving the house.

"Oh my God" I muttered to myself.

Why can't my life be normal for once. What is really up with Alex?, and now Lucas would think I'm some crazy ex who jumps into another relationship immediately after a break up.

What was he doing here anyway??

"Wait, so your hot next door neighbor kissed you??" Emily said after I told her everything about last night on our way to our next class.

"Emily!! Is that really the point?"

"Oh sorry... And so you friendzoned him?"

"Alex has always been my friend!"

"Oh ok. So what was Lucas doing there anyway?" she asked again

"I have no idea"

"He must think you're a crazy ex who jumps into another relationship immediately after break up"

"Exactly what I thought"

We sat at the back seat of English class as everyone scurried into the class.

"Well you have to go find out what he was doing at your house last night" she said and gestured to Lucas who was sitting at the window seat.

"No way, I'm not talking to him"

"You have to know" she said

I actually wanted to know,

I took a deep breath "Fine I'll ask him, but after class"

"Sure" she replied as the teacher came in

≠≠≠≠≠Okay after class came sooner than I expected and Emily left for lunch.

I walked some feets behind Lucas as he was shoving some books into his bag.
"Lucas, can we talk?"

He turned to me, his blue eyes piercing through mine "Sure"

His scent filled the air as everyone left the class.
"It's about last night"

"Oh, I shouldn't have come. It was a mistake" he said.

I nodded "And what you saw.. Alex kissed me, I mean I wouldn't have..."

"You don't need to explain" he cut me off "We're over remember"

"Yeah"

"Bye, I gotta go for football practice"
He slugged his bag over his shoulders and left the class.

I crossed my arms as I watched him leave.
There was one thing I couldn't deny.
I missed him.
