Chapter Thirty Six

My eyes opened to a room painted with very white colour, white floors and cabinets. I squinted my eyes and tried to get up.
There were so many wires connected to me that stopped me. There was also a cast on my left arm, was the accident that bad.

The beeping sound from the monitor beside me was so annoying, I groaned. My head hurts and my throat felt dry.

Finally a nurse came in.
"You're up, that's great" she beamed and checked my pulse

"I'm not technically up, can I get up?"

"No honey you have to rest and your head must hurt"

"Yes and can I get some water"

She poured out water in a glass and was about to feed me with it. I grabbed it with my right hand.
"I can drink myself" I sat up

"You're so tough aren't you" she said as I drank all of the water.

"When am I leaving here?" 

"Not anytime soon, don't be so eager"

I groaned in frustration.
"I should inform your family you're awake now" she said walking to the door.

"Family? No I don't want to see any of them"

"Oh. What about your best friend Emily"

"Yes, please do"

She left and seconds later Emily came in.
"Serena, oh my God you look like crap" she said as she came closer to my bed

"Thanks a lot, you made me feel much better" I said and she laughed "When did you get back anyway?"

"Tuesday, yesterday.. You have been out for three days"

"Really, oh my god" I gasped

"I know right" she agreed chuckling.
"I heard what happened" she continued "Lena's your twin?" 

"Hearing that alone gives me more headache" I groaned

"That is so incredible, she's in the waiting room right now though, she and your mom have been there, while your dad comes and goes"

"He's not my dad"

"Sorry" she laughed "I realized something, if Lena's really your sister, it makes us cousins"

"You're right" my eyes lit up "That is so cool"

We laughed
"Best friends and then cousins, what more could I ask for" she said and hugged me lightly.

I smiled when we let go.
My mom came in minutes later and my smile faded away.

"Uh, Serena I have to get to class but I'll be back after school" Emily said and I nodded before she left.

Mom came towards me.
"Serena, I- I'm so sorry" she bursted into tears.

I rolled my eyes "Mom, why are you crying?"

"I shouldn't have let you leave the house angrily like that.. I-"

"What's done is done" I cut in.

I spotted Lena at the door side, sadness in her eyes as she looked at me. I rolled my eyes.
Seriously who is buying that crap.

"Can you two now leave me alone" I said again.

Mom looked at Lena and then back at me.
"Serena.."

"Let me suggest something, maybe you two can do some bonding time and make up for the last 17 years you haven't been together!"

"You should head to school now" she told Lena

Lena nodded and left.
Mom got out a chair and sat beside my bed. Why can't she just leave me alone.
I turned the other way.

"Serena, I get why you're so angry, I just need you to understand I didn't mean to" she said softly "I thought it was for the best but I guess you are right, I should have told you"

I looked down, tears were already spilling. I turned to her "Mom why didn't you tell me sooner"

"To be honest, I didn't know either. It was when I ran into David at the coffee shop I figured out they lived in this town, and when he told me Lena was in the same school with you, I freaked out, I just... I'm sorry baby"

"You have no idea how much pain Lena has caused me in school, I didn't want to tell you because I didn't want to get you worried, and now knowing she's my twin"

She took in my hands "I know how you feel right now and nothing can justify what she did, I also know she can't be forgiven right now but trust me when I say she's trying, she regrets all she did and feels truly bad for it"

I was silent.
"I just wish you would forgive me Serena" she said again.

"Mom you know I can't stay mad at you forever" I tried to smile

She pulled me in for a hug.
"Ow! Mom that hurts"

"Oh sorry" she laughed and rubbed away tears "I love you so much Serena"

"I love you too" I told her

She looked into my eyes"I remember when you and Lena were born, I was so very happy...not during the labor of course"

I laughed
She continued "You came out first and Lena came in three minutes after" Not to brag but I always knew I was the mature one.
"I admitted you two were the most prettiest girls I've ever seen"

I smiled
"We named you both Serena and Selena, so crazy right?" I giggled, how did I not know Lena's name was Selena.

"I knew I wouldn't be a great mom for the both of you" she looked down.

"Don't say that mom, you're the greatest mom anyone could have"

She smiled sadly "I've had regrets,and I know Lena's hurting a lot, she hasn't had a real mom, I wasn't there for her all this while"

I stayed silent and she stood up cleaning her eyes.
"You should get some sleep" she said "I would be outside if you need me"

I nodded "Okay thanks mom"
