I called Emily the next day and told her she shouldn't bother picking me up. I didn't want to deal with her today.

After shower I put on a nice skirt that stopped above my knee and a cream long sleeved top. I packed my hair up and went downstairs to meet mom.
I haven't spoken to her since yesterday and I felt bad for blaming her for what dad did.

"Hey mom"

"How are you today" she asked me with concern

"I'm better.. Thank you" I said and hugged her. She was surprised at the gesture but hugged back anyway.

"I'm sorry about yesterday" she said in my hair.

"It's not your fault"

"Do you wanna have breakfast" she asked after we pulled away.

"No, I'll pass" I smiled.

"This guy really makes you smile, doesn't he"

"What!" I coughed "What guy?"

"The guy you don't want me to meet and who you've been hanging out lately with"

"You'll meet him mom, and he's just a friend" I said as I opened the door to leave.

"Right, a friend" she rolled her eyes.
I ignored her and started my walk to school.

Alex fell in step with me.

"Hey Alex" I smiled "I'm pretty sure your school is that way" I pointed to the opposite direction

"I'm taking the short route"

I laughed knowing there is not short route.

"Did you sleep well" he changed the topic

"Yes, thank you"

"There's something I've been wanting to tell you..." Alex trailed off as someone interrupted. We stopped and turned.

Lucas was in his car beside us.
"Hey, Serena do you need a ride?" he flashed his perfect white teeth.

I turned to Alex who was glaring at Lucas with clenched teeth and then back at Lucas who was just staring at me.
"Uh... Alex"

"I get it, you can go with him to school" he said coldly and turned back to the direction we came from.
I know he wanted to walk me to school. I sighed and got in the car.
"Hey"

"How are you doing" he asked

"Good"

We just sat there and he wasn't moving.
"We aren't going to school anymore"

He brought his face closer to mine and for a moment I thought he was gonna kiss me. I took a deep breath and he put in my seat belt.

"We wouldn't want you to die now, would we?" he said and I could feel his breath on me.
Crap! I forgot to put in my seat belt

"I like the skirt" he said finally and settled in his seat.

My heart was racing as I gulped.
He started moving in silence.

"I didn't know you took this road to school" I broke the silence.

"Yeah I do, sometimes"

"Hmm"

"So that was the guy on the field the other day"

"Yeah"

The rest of the ride to school was awkward and I headed straight to class immediately.
I was glad I didn't have any classes with Emily today, so I avoided her smoothly.

During lunch I went to the back of school to read, I didn't feel like eating and most importantly didn't want to sit with Emily.

Halfway through one of my books Emily came. Crap

"Serena what's wrong" a sad look on her face "Why have you been avoiding me"

"I haven't, I just wanted to read for the test"

She gave me a pointed look and sat beside me "You told me you felt like walking to school and yet you drive with Lucas, you could've just told me you were coming with Lucas and I wouldn't be angry"

"No Em, it's not like that, I met him on my way to school"

"Then what is it, why are you so angry with me"

"I'm not angry with you" I faced my book

"I know you well enough to know when you're angry with someone"

"Okay fine.. I'm angry with you" I said pissed off

"Why"

"Because you told Matt about the scholarship"

She looked down

"And you promised" I said again.

"I'm sorry I didn't think he would tell anyone"

"Well Lena knows right now and the whole school is about to find out" I said

She put her face in her hands "I'll talk to Lena.. And how did Lena know anyway"

"Uh.. I.. I" I looked around

"Is there something you're not telling me" she looked at me

Well fuck the scholarship and everyone knowing about it, I can't watch Emily get hurt because of Matt.

"Em... You deserve someone better than Matt"

She stood up "What are you talking about"

I stood up sighing "I saw Lena and Matt kissing yesterday at the mall"

She stepped back from me "No, it can't be true"

"I know what I saw Em, I'm sorry"

"Matt and I have been dating for two years, he can't do this to me" she failed to believe.

"Look I know how much you love him, but he did this and you have to end it"

She shook her head and looked at me one more time before running off.

"Emily!!!"
