Serena
I went to the gym after school for cheer practice, I couldn't be more happy.
The girls locker room was nice and there was a clean towel, sponge and soap. There was also a blue short and plain white t-shirt which we used to practice in the locker.
I put it on before going back to the gym and the practice began.
"Okay everyone take your positions" Lena spoke up
We all came together and lined up, I was on the second row beside one of Lena's friends and Lena stood opposite us.
"As we all know.. The competition is in two weeks. So we need to put in our best to cheer for the team"
"But unfortunately, I'm positive certain people wont make it" she looked at me and I scoffed."Well let's begin" she chirped
She started teaching us some steps and she was actually pretty good.
"5-6-7-8". We rehearsed it again and again and one hour later we were done.
I was glad it went on smoothly, so I had a quick shower and dashed to the parking lot where Emily was still waiting."Hey you shouldn't have waited" I said to her as I got in the passengers seat.
"You're welcome" she rolled her eyes playfully.
"It was no problem, I had time to finish my assingment.. and look I found a job for you"
She flashed the screen of her laptop to me."Wow" I smiled "that's really great.. Where is it?"
"Its a diner around here, people from school really go there to hang"
"That's no problem"
"Serena..., why do you even need a job?" she asks, concern in her eyes
"I.. I just need to help my mom"
"What about your dad?"
"My parents are seperated" I said plainly
"Oh, I didn't know"
"It's okay" I looked down "I've never even met my father"
"I'm sorry...I know I shouldn't ask but how do you pay school fees. No one needs to tell me they are pretty expensive"
"Um.. I.. " I looked for the right words to say to her.
"You know what.. You dont have to tell me" she said slightly angry
"I'm on scholarship" I sighed
"Wow, I didn't know you had a big brain inside that head of yours" she joked
I gave her a small smile "Just promise you won't tell anyone"
"I promise" she nodded
She drove to the diner, I was happy it was really not far from school.
Emily sat at a table while I went to meet the manager inside.I knocked on the door then heard a gruff enter before coming into the tiny office.
There was a small table at the middle and a stern looking man behind it.
"Um I came to apply for the waitress job" I say
"And you are?"
"Serena Louis"
"How old are you?" he asked. I was feeling giddy like I was getting a real job and was being interveiwed.
Well it was a real job"17"
"Okay take an apron over there" he gestured to the rack beside his table and I reached for it
"You will be paid 50 dollars a week" he said again
Holy shit! The rack almost fell at the sound of that.
"50 dollars??" I asked to make sure I wasn't mistaken
"Any problem" he looked through his glasses on the bridge of his nose
"Um. No not at all" I tried to gain composure
I admired the little apron that wrote 'Sammy' s diner'"Well get to work right away" he barked and I flinched
I put on the apron and gave him a smile "Thanks this means a.."
He gritted his teeth in anger."Okay I'll be going" I said before going out.
Wow. This man was something else.
I went over to the booth where Emily sat with a smoothie."You got the job!" she smiled when she saw the apron.
"Yeah thanks a lot, Em" I said to her "you should probably go home I have to start right away"
"Yeah I think I should, to sort things out with my dad"
"So you haven't talked to him since.... that day?" I widened my eye in surprise
"I couldn't see him, Serena, I was too upset.
"So where have you been staying" I scrunched my brows
She looked around "Matt's"
"Oh my God"
"Yeah, bye and get to work" with that she got her bag and dashed out.
I went over to the counter, there was a girl about my age there, with brown chestnut hair and grey eyes, there were dark circles under her eyes and she looked tired and stressed out."Hi" I said to her
She looked at me and then down at my apron then her eyes lit up with glee.
"You're starting work here?"
She didn't want for my response."I'm Ashley"
"Serena" I replied
"Hey since there aren't really any customers, I'll show you round"
"That'll be great"
She led me in and showed me the kitchen, freezer, storage and some other rooms in here.
We divided the diner and I would be attending to people that sat at the left while she was at the right.
We were to take orders, serve and then clean.
I could handle that and Ashley was pretty cool."What school do you attend" she asked
"Lakeview"
"I've heard so much about that school. I would love to go there"
I would love to leave there. Maybe she could take my space.
"What about you" I simply asked
"I attend satires"
"I used to go there. Why dont I recognize you?"
"I just moved here"
"Oh thats cool"
"I can see the reason you switched schools, I'm sure Lakeview is much better than Satires"
"I wish" I murmured
"Enough chit-chatting and get to work" the annoying boss said behind us.
We shuffled to our spot behind the counter quickly and Ashley rolled her eyes.
"Why is he always like that" I asked her
"I believe he has problems"
I giggled.
A couple came into the diner and sat on one of my tables.
'My first customers' I thought as I went to get their orders.
