Chapter Twenty-Nine

I woke up with a pounding head ache the next day. I'm grateful it was Saturday I wasn't ready to face anyone especially Lucas.

I looked at the dress I got for the party. It was today
Well I wasn't going anymore so I'll just save the dress for prom or something.

I went downstairs after having a shower and stopped midway when I heard voices from the door. I listened carefully.

"Lucas I don't think she wants to see you right now" mom said.

Lucas was here!?

"Please I just need to talk to her, I couldn't sleep last night"

"Look, I don't know what you did to Serena but I've never seen her this upset before" She sighed "Just give her some space"

"I will, right after I see her"

"It's 8 in the morning and she's asleep right now, and you really need to get some sleep too"

"Okay" he gave in, his voice sad.

I heard the door shut before I came down finally. I'm happy mom said that because I really didn't want to see him ever.

"Hey honey, how are you feeling"

"I'm fine" I replied sitting on a chair in the kitchen.

"I mad pancakes, your favorite" She tried to brighten my mood.

"Thanks"

She put some on my plate and I started eating.

"I'll be out for a while, will you be okay?"

I nodded.

"Are you still going out with Lucas for the party?"

I looked at her "No, I'm not going anywhere"

"Okay, bye I guess"

She carried her bag and left the house.
After eating I checked my phone and there were 15 voice messages from Lucas.
I cleared it all before going back upstairs.
I wanted to be away from the world.

Minutes later Emily barged into my room. I groaned.
"Hey girl! I'm at your service" She chirped and then stopped when she saw my face.
"What's wrong?"

"I'm not going" I said quietly but loud enough for her to hear me.

She came towards me "Why not?"
I could feel the tears coming but I wasn't gonna cry over Lucas anymore.

I told her everything, how I talked to Lena, the bet he made with his friends and how I thought it was a lie but Lucas didn't deny it.

"Well at least it was a bet, Matt cheated" she said

"Not helping" I deadpanned.

"I'm sorry, so did he explain why he did what he did?"

"He did, a little, but is there really anything to explain. Our relationship was built on a lie, he wouldn't have met me if not for some bet"

She sighed and took my hands.
"So what are you gonna do?"

"I'm breaking up with him"

"You're what?!" she screamed dramatically "You can't do that, you're gonna regret it"

"I've made up my mind and no one can change it"

"You really don't have to do this, just give him another chance"

"Emily please..."

"I know you love him and it'll be really bad for you if you break up"

"Yes I do, that's why I can't have him breaking my heart" my voice cracked

"Serena you don't have to do this" she continued.

"Don't worry" I assured her and we hugged tightly.

I dressed up for school on a dark jeans and long sleeved top, I looked into the mirror brushing my hair when I noticed the bracelet Lucas gave me.
I took it off and placed it in my bag before heading out.
I was definitely breaking up with him today.

I got to school and went straight to my lockers.
Emily was already there.
"Hey, you okay?"

"Yeah" I nodded and gave her a sad smile.

I didn't really want to break up with Lucas but it was for the best.
I spotted Lucas from afar who was already looking at me.

He was looking bad, no terrible. His eyes was bloodshot from lack of sleep and he had deep circles under them. He wore a random shirt and jeans and his bag slunged lazily on his shoulder.

He started walking towards me, I got my books for today's classes and shut my locker.
"Uh, I'll see you later Serena" Emily said and walked off.

I turned to Lucas again. This was it.
"Serena.." he said his voice croaked.
"Uh I was actually looking for you" I said avoiding eye contact and searching for the bracelet in my bag.
I clutched it and zipped up my bag.

I bit my lip to stop the tears from spilling.
"... It's over Lucas" my voice shaky.

"No Serena.. Don't do this" he searched my eyes "Let's talk this out"

I finally looked at him"There's nothing to talk about"

I took his hands and placed the bracelet in his palms.
"You don't have to give this back, I don't want to lose you" he said, sadness in his voice.

"You already did" and with that I walked out. Out of Lucas' life forever.

I caught up with Emily and she rubbed my back as we walked.
"Serena are you okay?"

The tears were already falling. I stopped "No I'm not, Emily"

We went to the bathroom immediately and she bolted the door while I cried helplessly in front of the mirror.
She continued rubbing my back.
"It's okay, everything will be alright"

The bell rang, so she handed me a tissue and helped me clean up.

When I was sure I looked normal we decided to leave.

"Thanks for everything, Em"

"No problem and I kind of owe you"

I chuckled "Yeah you do"
