"(Y/n), how long have you been single? Three years? We need to find you someone and fast because I don't think I can take anymore of your crying when watching sad romance movies", your friends said as she sat across from you.
"I'm not that bad", you scoffed.
"Your room is a few feet away from mine and I always hear you at three in the morning, crying your freakin eyes out. Now there's bound to be someone around here who is perfect for you", she said as she looked around the bar.
You weren't paying attention since you were too busy drowning yourself in a bunch of liquor. Any guy your friend chooses for you always turn out to be the most rudest human beings ever.
"Hey how about him? He's been checking you out since we got here", she said as she pointed behind you.
You turned around and met eyes with a familiar person. Your eyes widen and you quickly turn back around.
"That's Joshua", you whispered nervously.
"That's Joshua? Really? Wow. I see why you have a crush on him. Go talk to him", she nudged you.
You glanced over your shoulder and noticed his friends also trying to convince him to talk to you. You turned back around and took another shot of the alcohol in front of you.
"No more for you. Stop being a chicken and go talk to him", she said.
"I can't. I stutter and act like an idiot", you groaned.
"Well you better get over it because he's on his way over here", she smirked.
"What?? How do I look?? Does my breath smell? How's my hair??", you asked questions after question.
"You look fine", she smiled.
You breathed in and kept tapping your fingers on the table.
"I-I can't", you said and quickly ran towards the bathroom.
You were hyperventilating as you looked at yourself in the mirror. You had to soak paper towels with water and wiped it all over your neck. The only time you had a conversation with Joshua was when he had to borrow a pen. It wasn't really a conversation since all you said was 'd-..uht..'. You gave him the only pen you had and needed.
"(Y/n) what are you doing??", your friend asked you as she walked in.
"I can't talk to him. I don't know what to say. I can't go out there", you said.
"Well I'm leaving. You're gonna have to come out sooner or later because he's gonna be waiting for you", she said as she walked away.
"Wait-..ugh", you groaned and shut your eyes.
You sighed and had to come out of the bathroom, mostly because you don't want him thinking you fell in the toilet.
You poked your head out and searched for him, sighing in relief as you didn't see him in sight. You opened the door wide open and stumbled onto someone.
"(Y/n)", Joshua smiled.
You froze and kept making weird noises that were supposed to be sentences.
"Your friend left", he said.
You shut your mouth from saying anything else. You thought it be best if you just stayed quiet.
"Um..so anyways, I was thinking if you'd like to go get coffee sometime? I've been meaning to ask you a few days ago but when I called you, you ran..just like a few minutes ago", he chuckled.
You looked down at your feet and felt your face become hot. Not even alcohol can make you feel different.
Joshua was starting to feel like you didn't want to talk to him and that he was just bothering you.
"Never mind. I get you're not interested", he softly smiled sadly and turned.
He was about to walk away but you managed to grab his wrist.
"..w-when?", you mumbled.
He smiled and turned his body back to you.
"Tomorrow? If that's okay with you", he said.
"..sure", you said, nodding with your head low.
"Why are you acting so shy? I mean, I don't bite. You don't have to be afraid", he smiled.
You slowly faced him, feeling your face become more hot as soon as you see him. His brown eyes met yours.
"Sorry", you mumbled.
"Do you wanna sit with us? We have space", he asked, pointing towards his friends.
As you glanced behind him, you can saw them smirking sand giggling. You were sure to get teased, which has always been a problem with you.
"That's okay. I should get going. It's getting late", you said.
"Ah I should walk you home then. I can see you've had a few drinks. You're red", he said.
"Um..", you were about to decline his offer but he went back to his friends and got his coat, telling them he'll be back.
"Let's go", he smiled and opened the door for you to exit first.
~~~
"Are you sure you're feeling okay? You're still red", he said while placing his hand on your forehead.
While he was busy checking if you have a fever, you were focused on his lips. They were so close yet so far. When he looked down at you, you quickly looked away. You continued walking but you tripped. Joshua quickly grabbed you before you could hit the floor.
"Are you okay?", he asked.
"Yeah", you mumbled.
It began to rain so you two ran into a small empty building. Your clothes were soaking wet which made you cold.
"We should wait here until the rain stops", he said.
He noticed you were shivering so he wrapped his coat over you. He sat next to you and kept an arm around you to keep you warm.
"You should've stayed with your friends", you said.
"Yeah but you'd be walking in the rain by yourself. Plus, it's dangerous to walk alone at night. See, with me you're safe. I promise you that", he smiled.
"How can I know that if we've never been alone together?", you said.
"We're alone now. Nothing bad has happened", he said.
"Except for the rain", you said.
"Maybe the rain is a good thing. We've been talking for a while now and you haven't ran out", he said.
"Hmm...", you looked out the window and watched the rain as it dropped onto the plants.
"Your friend told me that it's hard for you to talk to me. Maybe at first it's true but you need time. Anyways, it was hard for me to talk to you too but my friends kept saying 'if you like her you need to talk to her or else' so they convinced me to talk to you", he chuckled.
"My friend called me a chicken. She doesn't understand how difficult it is for me. I've never been in a serious relationship. Just childish ones. So I'm kind of afraid of meeting new people", you said.
"That's understandable. I've never been in a relationship. Things like that don't really work out for me", he said.
"Why? You're nice", you said.
He smiled and looked down at his lap.
~~~
"The rain stopped. I can take you home now", Joshua said.
He noticed you weren't answering. When he looked at you, he smiled at your sleeping body. Your head was resting on his shoulder while your arm intertwined his.
Since he didn't know where you live, he carried you on his back all the way to his house.
