________________________________"Arranged marriage?! Are you insane??"
You couldn't help but close your eyes, hoping whatever came out of your mom's mouth is false.
"Don't talk to your mother that way. You know we only want the best for you. You are almost 22 years old. We want to see you settling down", your dad said.
"But I have enough time to meet someone. I don't even know this person that I'm supposedly marrying", you said.
"It is my co-worker's son. He's a very fine young man and both of us thought he'll make a wonderful husband for you", your dad said.
"But isn't marriage about already being in love with that person? I mean, I'm not saying that an arranged marriage is bad. It's just...I'd rather personally know who I'm marrying", you said, making sure you didn't offend your parents since their marriage was arranged by your grandparents.
"The wedding will be held in two months so we think that is enough time to get to know your fiancé. We invited them over for dinner tonight. His parents mentioned something about a trip far away from here for the both of you. It's gonna be great", your father smiled as his arm went around your mom.
"It's for you to say", you mumbled as you sat down on the couch.
~~~
"Hello Mr. and Mrs. Kwon. Come in", your mother smiled as she greeted the Kwons.
You were standing next to your father who was making sure you behaved. You looked down at your heels that your mother had bought for you. They were very uncomfortable.
"This must be (y/n). It's nice to finally meet you. Your parents speak very fondly of you", Mrs. Kwon said, earning a smile from her husband.
"This is our son, Soonyoung", Mr. Kwon stood aside, revealing a very attractive looking young man.
You were always awkward whenever meeting a guy. Uncomfortable would be the word you would most use at times like this. You extended your hand forward, him softly grasping it with a smile on his face. You could tell he was also uncomfortable by the way he kept glancing at your father.
"Shall we?", your mother led them towards the dining table where the food awaits.
You had to sit down next to Soonyoung, obviously.
"So (y/n), your mother tells me that you are studying psychology. Is that something you want to do in the future?", Mrs. Kwon asked.
"Yes. I'm more focused on becoming a child psychologist. Many children are exposed to dangerous situations where it might damage their developmental skills and most people don't understand that. Then later in life their parents will ask 'what happened to my child? What did I not do in order for my child to be 'normal'?' And I think that using the term normal when it comes to children is a very sensitive topic. Their child will think there is a specific way to be 'normal' which will confuse them. It's something I'm most interested in", you said.
"That's really great. See honey, (y/n) here is doing something that will actually help someone", Mrs. Kwon said as she looked at her son.
Soonyoung seemed very disinterested in this conversation. His fork would make sounds as he moved it around the plate.
"Our son wants to become an idol which we find very ridiculous. That is not a career that we want for him. Maybe you'll be able to put some sense into him seeing as you want to become a child psychologist", Mr. Kwon said.
