[VANESSA'S POV]
We had just gotten back from dinner. Madelaine and I went to her room while Camila left to the guest room. I wanted to bring up the coming out situation but Madelaine has had such a rough day, so I decided to spare her. "Sleep?" Madelaine asks sweetly. "Yeah, we can sleep. Let's just change those bandages and get you in some pajamas." I say walking to the bathroom. Madelaine follows behind me. She takes her sweats off and I pick her up and set her on top of the counter. I remove the bandage and throw it away. "Does it still hurt?" I ask. I grab a towel and damp it to clean the cuts. "A little." Madelaine responds. I set the towel on top of the cuts and grab the bandages. I rinse off the cut and dry it. I gently put on new bandages. "All good." I say picking up Madelaine so she is standing on the floor. She smiles at me before running to cuddle under the covers. "Don't you want pajamas?" I ask. She shakes her head and rests it on the pillow. "Sleepy." Madelaine mumbles. "Okay." I sigh while climbing into the bed and laying next to her. Madelaine quickly cuddles into my side and sets her head on my chest. "Tell me a bedtime story." Madelaine demands. "Okay. Well there was this beyond gorgeous girl. She had a less than average girlfriend." I laugh. Madelaine looks up at me and frowns. "You're beautiful." She says touching my cheek. "So one day th-" I start but Madelaine cuts me off. "Do you know you're beautiful?" She asks sadly. It wasn't really something I was told often. It wasn't something people would say the first time they see me that's for sure. I was barely ever told I was beautiful. The person who has called me beautiful the most is Madelaine. Except I don't understand how I'm beautiful compared to her. "Baby," She says sitting up. "Mads, just lay down. You're tired." I insist. She shakes her head. "No. You need to know you're beautiful." She argues. I sigh defeated and sit up as well. "You are so beautiful, baby. You have beautiful soft skin. You have the most gorgeous mocha brown eyes. You have pretty plump lips. Your hair flows so elegantly over your back. Your body is so beautiful. It's so mesmerizing. Everything about you is mesmerizing. Your smile is so beautiful. You look so beautiful when you smile. It's honestly one of my favorite things to look at." Madelaine says her eyes never looking away from mine. "Your personality is what makes you most beautiful. It's so genuine and likable. You have a great sense of humor. You love helping other people. You have the most caring mind. You are so open minded. You're just the greatest person I can have in my life. I'm so glad I have you." Madelaine finishes. "You really think that highly of me?" I ask stunned. "I could never think any lower." She hums. "I love you." I say. "Are you afraid of me?" Madelaine asks. "What?" I ask confused. "Are you afraid that I'm going to hurt you? Considering your past relationships, aren't you afraid of me?" She asks curiously. "Of course it's something I still think about but I know you would never hurt me, right?" I ask. "I would never think of hurting you. Nor would I do so. I'm going to keep you safe as long as you do the same." Madelaine reassures. "Okay. Then no, I am not afraid of you." I say. Madelaine smiles. "Good because I don't want you to be afraid of me." I pull her into my lap and hug her tightly. "I love you too." Madelaine says into my neck. I lay down with Madelaine still in my arms and she lays on top of me. She snuggles her head into my neck before kissing it softly. I smile and hold her tighter not wanting her to leave. Soon I feel her breathing become lighter against my neck. Knowing she is asleep I decide to sleep as well.
I wake up to Madelaine silently sleeping on top of me. I carefully move her off of me and get out of bed. I make my way to the kitchen. I decide on making sweet potato waffles. I grab all the ingredients from the fridge, and make the waffles as quickly as possible knowing I haven't checked the time. I set them on three separate plates. I top them with some blueberries, almond butter, and honey. I grab three glasses and fill them with juice. I smile satisfied with the dish before going to Madelaine's room. I find her still asleep in bed. I walk to her and shake her gently. She groans before turning to look at me. "Morning beautiful." I smile. "Morning." Madelaine replies pecking my lips. "So, I know I told you breakfast in bed. I was just wondering if you wanted it in bed, or if you want to eat breakfast with Cami?" I ask. She smiles. "I want breakfast with Cami." She says cutely. "Okay, wanna go wake her up and then meet me in the kitchen?" I ask. She nods her head before getting out of bed and leaving the room. I go to the kitchen and set some silverware next to the meals. I sit patiently waiting for Madelaine to come. Madelaine enters the kitchen with a sleepy Camila. Madelaine sits beside me while Camila sits across from us. "Why am I up so early?" Camila asks rubbing her eyes. "Mads wants to eat breakfast together." I say. Camila instantly smiles, "What are we eating?" She asks looking at the plates. "Waffles." I say avoiding the type of waffles they are. I see Madelaine already eating them in the corner of my eye. "Yay! I love waffles!" Camila says excitedly taking a bite. She looks at me confused while chewing her food. "What kind of waffles are these?" Camila asks with her mouth full. "It's disrespectful to talk with your mouth full." I state. "You let Mads do it all the time!" Camila protests. "Yeah but it's cute when she does it." I say looking to Madelaine. She smiles at me while eating her waffles. Camila groans. "Eat your food." I say sternly. "Why would I eat it if I don't know what it is?" Camila asks. "It's just sweet potato." I say while starting to eat my own food. "What the fuck? Who ruins waffles with sweet potato?" Camila asks. "Mads likes it so I made it. I know you secretly like it so stop being stubborn and eat the goddamn food." I demand. Camila sighs defeated. "Yeah, I do like it." She mumbles. I laugh and look to Madelaine who has an empty plate in front of her. "Want more?" I ask. She nods happily. I hand her my plate since I am already full. I don't understand how she went from having such a terrible day to being so carefree and happy. I'm definitely not upset about it. I love seeing her happy. It's been so long since I've seen her like this. She glows when she's happy. To the public she's always radiating positivity but inside she's so broken and it hurts. It hurts knowing that she is hurting. She's so precious she doesn't deserve to be hurting. I snap out of my thoughts when I see Madelaine's hand waving in front of my face. "You okay, baby?" She asks worriedly. "Yeah. You're just so beautiful." I say wholeheartedly. She smiles, "So are you." Madelaine compliments. "Well, I am stuffed." Camila laughs taking her plate to the sink. "Thanks for the breakfast, Vanessa." Camila smiles. "No problem." I reply. "What are we doing today?" Madelaine asks. "Well I was going to go out for a bit. I was hoping you and Camila could keep each other company." I say nervously. I don't know how Madelaine would react to me leaving her. "You're leaving?" Madelaine asks sadly. "Yes but only for a few hours. I will be back as soon as possible." I reassure. Madelaine gives me a nervous smile. "I promise." I say holding out my pinky. Madelaine wraps her pinky around mine, "Promise." She smiles. I kiss her lips softly. "I'm going to get ready." I say walking to Madelaine's room. She nods and leaves to the living room couch. That went better than I anticipated. I get dressed quickly and freshen up before grabbing my purse to leave. "I love you. I will be back later." I say to Madelaine. "I love you too." She replies with a sad smile. I hop into my car and think of where to go first. I want to get Mads the promise rings I told her about last night. I just don't know how they should look or where I'm supposed to get them. I decide to go to Zales first. I arrive at the store and go inside. I look around in search for a ring. I found many beautiful rings but nothing that stood out to me. I leave the store and brainstorm for more jewelry stores. I see No Roses Jewelry and stop by there. I find even more stunning rings. Some diamond, some silver, some gold. I might have had my eyes on the beautiful diamond ones but I don't know how Madelaine would feel about me spending so much money on these rings. Each ring is a good eight-hundred dollars. I keep the diamond rings in the back of my head while continuing my search. I search around town for another jewelry store. I find a store called Dark Rose Jewelry. I like the name so I decide to pull over and check it out. I step into the store and realize it's not as fancy as the others I previously went to. It had beautiful jewelry at an acceptable price. I look around in hopes of finding something I would love here. I nearly decide to leave before seeing two rings. One gold and one silver. They had a crescent moon and a star. They were subtle yet so beautiful. They weren't super fancy and expensive. They just look as though they told a story which I found fascinating. I ask to see them hoping they were the sizes I needed. Mine and Madelaine's fingers were about the same size so all I needed to do was make sure it fit mine. I tried on the ring and was ecstatic to find out it was the perfect size. The rings were only a little above a hundred dollars which I found acceptable. A middle aged woman checked out the rings for me, "These rings are very special." She said looking at the rings. "Great. I need them to be." I say happily. "For a special someone?" She asks setting the rings into boxes. "Yes, very. I was wanting them to be matching promise rings." I say. She smiles at me. "That's a great idea. They certainly will love it." She says while putting the boxes in a red bag. "I hope so." I sigh while giving her the cash. "Keep the change." I say while grabbing the bag. "Good luck." She says kindly. "Thank you." I say before leaving the store.Hope you like the chapter. Sorry it took so long for me to write it. I wasn't feeling so good out of town so I wasn't really up for writing sorry. I didn't sleep last night so I decided to finish the chapter. Thank you guys for 4k reads. It's so amazing. I'm really glad you guys like my story.
