          [VANESSA'S POV]
We had just gotten to Veggie Grill. I park the car into a parking spot, and look to Madelaine. "Here." I smile. Madelaine smiles back at me. "Okay." She mumbles unbuckling her seatbelt. I unbuckle mine as well, getting out of the car.

Madelaine holds my hand in hers. I can feel how her hand shakes in mine. That's unusual. "Are you okay, baby?" I ask, looking at her worriedly. She nods with a smile. I could tell it was fake.

"Yeah, I'm okay." She lies. I could see a tint of anxiousness in her eyes. I decide on ignoring it. "Okay." I say. I rub my thumb over her knuckles trying to calm her. I don't understand why she is being like this.

We both walk into Veggie Grill. I order for the both of us, while Madelaine looks around the restaurant. I let go of her hand to get my wallet. She looks at me quickly, I could see how worried she had immediately gotten. "It's okay, baby. I'm right here." I reassure. She nods fiddling with her hands.

I pay the cashier quickly, feeling guilty about letting go of Madelaine's hand. I watch as Madelaine doesn't look away from her hands. I put my wallet away, and grab Madelaine's hand. She smiles at our hands.

I look back to the cashier. He gives me a small smile. He wasn't trying to flirt, or make fun. He was just being nice. He hands me the receipt, and my change. I shove it into my pocket, deciding against getting my wallet.

Madelaine, and I walk to a booth, with her holding my hand tightly. I sit down on one side of the booth, expecting Madelaine to sit across from me. Instead she sits closely next to me.

"Baby, are you okay?" I ask. "Yes, I'm okay." She smiles. I could tell she was lying. "What's wrong?" I ask. "Nothing, I'm okay." Madelaine says. I was starting to get frustrated, knowing very well that she is not okay.

"Okay." I sigh. Madelaine scoots closer to me, resting her head on my shoulder. "I know you're lying to me but we don't have to talk about it." I say before kissing her head. She wraps her arms around my waist holding me tightly. I drape my arm over her shoulder, leaning my head on hers.

The dude from the cash register comes up to our booth, setting the food on the table. "Hey," He smiles taking a seat across from us. Madelaine whimpers quietly, moving her head into my neck.

"Hello." I say kind of confused. "I can't stay long. I'm not allowed to sit at the tables." He says. I nod my head for him to continue.

"I've noticed someone is having a bad time." He says nodding his head towards Madelaine. I nod rubbing Madelaine's arm. "I'm not supposed to do this but would you both like something off the menu. On the house." He offers with a smile.

"You really don't have to do that." I say. "I want to. Maybe this small act can help her feel a little better." He says looking to Madelaine. "Okay, thank you." I smile. He smiles.

"I'm Sean by the way." He says sticking out his hand. Madelaine flinches at the movements. He notices, and immediately draws his hand back. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to frighten you." Sean apologizes. "It's okay." She mumbles.

"I'm Vanessa." I say, sticking out my hand slowly. He does the same, shaking my hand carefully. "Your girlfriend?" He asks. "Want to introduce yourself, babe?" I ask. She shakes her head.

Usually she's ecstatic to meet new people. "Her name is Madelaine." I say. "You both have beautiful names. It's nice to meet you." Sean says nicely. "Same here." I smile.

"So, what would you both like?" He asks. "What do you want, Mads?" I ask. She shrugs her shoulders. "Surprise us." I say. He nods leaving the table.
