Dallas had never really been one good at setting up your dates. It was always your job to pick the day and the place, all he ever said was "It's your world babe im just livin' in it." So it was a bit strange when he was the one to say he wanted to go out that night with you. The moon was bright as the two of you sat on the hood of his red T-bird in the knippy fall air. In the two years you had been together you had never felt this way while being with him. There was an ackward tension, it didn't seem like bad tension, at least you hoped. Ealier that night he had taken you to the drive-in, then the diner for some warm coffee; in all that time he hadn't tried to lay a finger on you, which was quite odd. He always wanted to have his arm around your shoulders, or he would try to get you to hold onto his bicep. But tonight, nothing, and frankly it was getting scary and a little, well, annoying.
You look over at him, his arms were crossed over his chest and he was making a face, almost like he was thinking about something real long and real hard. You made an attempt to look cold so maybe he would offer you his jacket, but he didn't notice. Finally, after growing sick of your own game of charades, you decided to say something to him.
"So are you gonna offer me your jacket or what? I've been over here shiverin' for the past ten minutes."
"Uh yeah." He began to take off his coat and hand it to you. Just as you slipped your arm into one sleeve his face grew pale and he yanked he leather lapel of the jacket and you went rolling off the side of the car.
"Oh my gosh I'm so sorry are you alright?!" He got up and went around the front of the car to check on you, jacket now in hand.
You were brush yourself off and look up at him. "Listen Dal, I think I know what is going on."
      "Wait, you do?"
"Yeah. The timidness, the quiet, trying to plan a "date". See, if this is the way you break up with a girl Dal you've got it all wrong because I ain't gonna take it any easier because of all this. If you wanted to get away from me so bad you should'a just said somethin'. " Just as you were about to storm off towards the road Dallas changed completly.
"Damn it! No! That wasn't my plan at all. You think Im just going to let you go like that? It's just all day I've been trying to say somethin' that I just dont quite know how to say."
"Then what is it?" There was no responce back fron him, just a worried face. You sigh and turn away again.
"Wait! Please." When you turn around Dallas is on one knee, searching for words that won't come out. Out of his jacket pocket he pulls a small colored box. "Please. All day I have been waiting for the right moment to say this, I just haven't been brave enough until now. I have never wanted to stay with someone as bad as I have wanted to stay with you. My whole life has been runni'n. I don't wanna run anymore. Will you marry me?"
