Lilac:

Madison's POV••

The clock read 7:55 and I quickly finished applying my pink lipstick and checking once more in the mirror before grabbing my phone and heading downstairs. Right when I reached the last step, someone knocked on the door. I quickly walked towards the front door but my dad beat me to it. I sucked in a sharp breath when there stood Sam with no longer pink hair but hair the color lilac. He was wearing a white tee, black jeans, a black blazer and black vans. It wouldn't be so bad but the only problem was that Sam had the sleeves of the blazer rolled up to his elbows so his tattoos were on full display and my parents have always been strict.

"Hello Mr.Dugan." Sam greeted, sticking his hand out towards my dad. My dad only looked at his hand and asked "What are you doing here?"

Sam awkwardly shoved his hands into the pockets of his blazer and maintained eye contact with my dad.

"I am here to pick up Madison for our date." He replied.

I quickly rushed over next to my dad and smiled at Sam.

"Hey! You're here," I said faking a smile,"we should get going. Bye dad." I quickly said and just as I stepped out the door I heard my mom's voice say,"why don't you stay for dinner?"

I mentally groaned and looked at Sam who was looking at me.

"I'm sorry mom but Sam made reservations for a really nice restaurant and it cost a lot of money." I started but only got interrupted by my father's laugh.

"This little punk wouldn't-"

"Dad!" I said cutting him off before he could continue. Sam's cheeks were a bright red and he kept on fiddling with his lip ring.

"Sam, I don't think having dinner with us for once won't kill you two, right?" My mom said, dragging Sam into the situation.

"We would love to stay Mrs.Dugan." he replied, forcing a smile on his face. Sam grabbed my hand and we made our way back to my house and I led him into the living room to sit down on the lovers seat.

"Dinner will be ready in a minute." my mom called and then the awkward silence began. Sam gripped my hand tighter, and drew circles on the back of my hand.

"So Sam. Interesting hair color you have there. Why did you chose purple? Don't you think it's a little bit girly?" My father asked him.

"It's lilac." I interrupted, earning a squeeze from Sam.

"I don't believe in stereotypes Mr.Dugan. And I actually dyed my hair this color for the memory of my friend. He was in the army and he made me promise that if something were to happen to him, I would dye my hair this color." With each word his said, his grip got tighter and the circle movements got faster.

"What happened to your friend?" My dad asked, not letting go the topic any time soon.

"Dad." I warned

"What? I just wanna know." He said and turned his attention to Sam.

"He died." Sam answered and before my dad could push anymore, my mom called saying dinner was ready.

We all sat down at the dinner table and we all started eating, Sam quietly chewing on his broccoli.

"What are the meanings behind your tattoos Sam?" My mother asked, eyeing his tattoo sleeve and some on his right arm.

"Some I got when I was a mindless kid a-"

"Oh, so you mean right now?" My dad interrupted. Sam frowned and picked at his rice on the plate.

"Why did you get piercings?" My dad asked. I felt Sam tighten his grip and it felt as if he was going to break my wrist.

"Drunken mistakes and stupid dares Sir."

"So you're an alcoholic? Are you also a druggie?" And that's when I knew Sam had enough. I looked over at Sam and he had his head down and looked at his lap.

If Sam wasn't going to say anything then I was.

"Dad stop." I said and abruptly stood up, pulling Sam up with me,

"You don't know him and you're judging him because of he looks. You haven't even gotten to know him so why don't you like him?" I asked, trying hard not to raise my voice.

"Look at him! Dyed hair, tattoos and piercings! I know kids like this Madi and they're a bad influence. I don't care if this kid has his own charity fund or whatever but I will never approve of your relationship!" He yelled getting up as well.

"You don't know him and I love him!" I yelled back, feeling my face get hotter by the second.

"I've heard that million of times and he's only using you!"

"We've been together for 2 years and how come he's still here? We've already been through a lot so why hasn't he left?" I pointed out

"Wait until your pregnant. Then he'll leave you just like very other teenage boy does!"

"I am sorry sir but if your daughter does get pregnant, I won't leave her. Cause I love her and there's nothing anyone can do to change my mind." Sam said cutting in. I felt his hand around my waist and I moved closer to him.

"Mom, what do you think?" I asked turning towards my mom who has been enjoying our little performance.

"Honey," she said turning to my dad, "Madison is right. You don't know the boy to be jumping to assumptions so quickly." And I mentally thanked her and Sam seemed to relax a bit a well.

My dad's face was red and you could practically see the steam coming out of his ears.

"Come on Sam. Let's go." I said and pulled him behind me but still hearing him say goodbye to my parents after everything that has happened.

"I'm so sorry about them Sam. That never meant to happen." I quickly said, apologizing for my parents(father's)behavior.

He smiled and kissed my lips, guiding my hands to his neck.

"It's alright. He'll warm up to me." And we both laughed.

"So are you still up for dinner or do you just wanna head back to my place and watch a movie?" He asked pulling away and heading towards his car.

"Let's go to your house. I've lost my appetite after that dinner."
