Smoke:

Jc's POV••

Walking down the streets of LA seemed like home. The familiar scenes and the smells and that guy who stood at the corner selling the latest gossip magazines. But not only did this place feel like home, it also felt like torture. I would spend my days with her strolling down the boardwalk or go window shopping and laughing at my stupid jokes. Strolling down this path that led to a red oak tree, I remembered that is the place that I would hold her as she read a book, or just enjoy the silence, and sometimes just ask questions about the universe.

I should be over my heartbreak, considering that it has been more than a year, but I can't let it go. The memories are drilled into my head and I can't seem to take it out. It's constantly there and always reminding me that you can trust no one and no one can be trusted.

I could start over and forget about the bad relationship and give dating one more chance, but somehow I have this idea that every single girl will just play me instead of actually love me. Part of me is telling me that I'm crazy, and to get over it, but the other side keeps reminding me of what happened, and then the other part is just kinda giving up and giving into the 'all girls are the same' idea.

I arrived at the oak tree where we spent most of our time and someone was there. It was a girl, and from the looks of it, she was smoking. I continued to walk until I was standing next to her. Her hair was curly and cut messily just above her shoulders so the ends would fall on her collar bone. She didn't pay attention to me as she kept on smoking and staring out into space until she said,

"Can I help you?"

She threw her cigarette to the ground and stomped on it before turning to me. Her gaze was hard and cold, her lips slightly pucked. If she wasn't so intimidating I would've answered easily with a cocky reply or a jerk answer.

"Can I have a smoke?" I said instead, not looking at her. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw her take one out of her pocket and a lighter.

"Here." she said handing it to me. I wasn't a smoker and I've never smoked and I don't like smoking but my mouth said the words before my brain could process them.

"You live around here?" I asked, taking in a breath and letting it out, trying my best not to choke on the smoke. She looked up at me, her arms crossed and her lips still pucked.

"I'm here for the summer." she replied not looking away. I just nodded and let out another breath of the killing stick.

"Do you?" she asked.

I raised an eyebrow at her and took in a long drag, letting the smoke out slowly.

"I live all around the country." I simply replied, letting the thing rest between my fingers.

"And what does that mean?" she asked turning her body to face me.

I honestly had no idea what I was doing. Was I really smoking and flirting with some chick? My brain kept on telling me to put the stick down and to walk away but my body said otherwise.

"Oh, it means that I travel a lot. My life is on the road and I wouldn't change a thing about it." I said. She just raised her eyebrows and stayed silent until she asked another question

"Why do you travel a lot?"

I smiled at her and shook my head

"Quite a curious thing you are." She just blushed and looked down at her feet. She wasn't so intimidating anymore considering that the preview of the ordinary teenage girl was in her.

"I'm in this group of guys and we're called Our2ndLife." I said sitting on the ground. After a few seconds she sat down next to me quietly said "Oh."

We sat in silence. Not an awkward silence but more of a comfortable silence. It reminded me of the old times that I spent with her where we would sit in silence and just enjoy each others company. I still had the cigarette in my hand and was moving it up to my lips when she got up and took the cigarette from me.
"Didn't you know that smoking kills?" she said breathing out the smoke and winking at me. She was walking away when I remembered something important.

"Wait! What's your name?" I asked. She just turned around and smiled and kept on walking away.
