Yellow Brick Road:
Your POV••
My feet ached from standing all day long, not to mention the ridiculous Dorothy costume I had to wear of what consisted of a blue and white plaid dress that was too short to be hosting a 5 year olds party and 6 inch red ruby pumps. My hair was in two ponytails and the cheap red lipstick rubbed off every time I covered my mouth and said, "Oh Toto! Where are we?" Good thing was that I wasn't the only Dorothy.
I was relieved when my shift was almost over and I heard the bell ring. I groaned and reapplied the lipstick, walking over to the new group. It looked like every other group that had about 15 kids and a couple of adults and there were the occasional bored teenagers that were in the group but what caught my attention was the guy that was too old to be a teenager but too young to be a parent from anyone in this group. He wore a white t-shirt, black skinny jeans and black vans. He actually looked excited to be here.
"Welcome to the Wonderful Land of Oz!" I said and faked a smile, "Follow me down the yellow brick road to see the Wizard of Oz!" I exclaimed in a fake cheery voice that made me want to rip my ears out.
I walked through one of the doors, punching in the code password and holding it open, letting the costumers go first. That was the rule. Let the costumers go first and then close the door behind you. The guy was the last one to go in, and he winked. At me. Or maybe it was my imagination. I shrugged it off and went back to the front. As soon as I went to the front, I snapped my fingers 3 times and out came Max, who played the scare crow, Tommy, who played the Tinman and Derek, who played the cowardly lion. The music started to play and we all grabbed each other's arms, smiling a wide grin.
"Alright everyone, grab a partner!" I said and heard prepubescent giggles and laughs.
"We're off to see the wizard," we began, "the wonderful wizard of oz." and began skipping down the yellow sidewalk. I would stumble a few times but the guys would hold my balance so I wouldn't trip over.
No much after, we heard the laugh, signaling us to take our scared pose.
"Oh no," said Max
"Could it be?" said Derek
"The wicked witch of the west!" we shrieked.
Then Abigail, the witch, came flying in on her broom, her green skin make up fading. She didn't even start her line when we heard a voice say, "I thought Dorothy is suppose to be better looking than the witch."
We turned in surprise and looked at the kids wide eyed.
"It was Sam!" accused a little kid. I turn my face to see him and he just had a smug look on his face. I felt Abigail's hand on my back and I returned back to my happy posture.
"Well little boy, have you ever heard that an ugly personality ruins a pretty face?" I told him, the look on his face disappearing.
"The witch here was a beautiful person with gorgeous gray eyes and rosy lips, her brown hair perfectly curled, she looked like an angel. But one day, the man she loved ignored her and married her sister, the good witch. The wicked witch seeked for a special potion to make her irresistible. She didn't listen to the lady who sold her the potion and drank the whole potion and she turned how she is now." I improvised.
"That's right," Abigail sneered, "and those red shoes will make me look how I did before." she pointed to the ruby heels.
"I will get them, even if I have to take your feet off." she said, and before flying away she said, "monkeys attack!"
The sound of monkeys started to fill the room and cotton apples started falling from the ceiling.
"Oh no! We should leave before we get hurt!" I said and we ran. The rest of the party went smoothly until the Sam guy opened his mouth again.
