Ethan and (Y/n) were riding into the barely lit town, (Y/n) had her head resting on Ethan's back with her eyes closed as they rode through the deserted dirt roads of Manzanita Post. The only sound that could be heard was the sound of the horses hooves and the wind blowing even a few owls in the-distance. It was silent. That's when the sound of feet walking through the grass caught both their ears, Ethan turned to the direction of the sound while (Y/n) lifted her head to see what was out there. That's when a faint yellow gown, glasses and brown hair came into view to show their old friend Kathryn who had yelled at them when they first arrived.
"Kathryn, what brings you out here this late?" Ethan asked pulling back on the reins making the horse come to a stop. Kathryn was in her night gown as she stopped right beside the horse.
"I saw you guys from the house comin' back and was just wonderin' why you two were out this late," she questioned with a smile on her features.
"Well you should know us by now that we don't listen to the rules and we go out at night to just hang out," Ethan replied putting the reins down around the horn of the saddle and held onto the horn tightly. Kathryn laughed at the brown haired boys words and shook her head, she remembered those days like it was just yesterday.
"Should have known... would you two like to come on inside we can sit down and have a drink? Maybe catch up some since I haven't seen either of you in how many years? 6?"
"Around there, sounds nice right (Y/n)?" Ethan asked her as he turned his head over his shoulder to look at her.
"Of course," she replied as they followed their friend to her home. It was a small cabin with a dog on a chain in the front, the fog appeared to be a border collie. The dog jumped up happily to see Kathryn returning, she went over and pet her dogs head and walked inside the home. The dog looked to Ethan who pat the dogs head with a smile shining through his chapped lips. The dog was whining with joy at the man in front of him. He remembered his hound dog he used to have when he was little before it passed from a bear hunt accident when he was 12. Him, his brother and dad tried their best, but soon after the dog attacked it he got killed.
"Ethan..." (Y/n) questioned snapping the hazel eyed boy from his thoughts to look up at the two girls at the door.
"Oh sorry," Ethan apologized and walked inside with the girls.
"Would you like some tater soup?" Kathryn asked politely as she walked over to the pot on the stove in the kitchen.
"Yes please," (Y/n) said as Ethan just nodded a yes to Kathryn who fixed them both bowls of the soup she had made.
"So, what brings you two back to this small good for nothin' town," the brunette asked her friends and walked over with the two marble bowls in hand putting them down onto the table for the two had sat down beside one another. She grabbed her tea from the table and sat in front of them.
"We wanted to just come home and see what we missed all these years and well reminisce." (Y/n) had answered, she knew Ethan wouldn't answer so she had done it for the both of them.
"Well all that is here is the memory of what corrupted us all, that day was scary for us all. Ethan's father freaked out when he came back from his little work trip he went on and said he goin' huntin'. He never returned, I looked out for him, but nothin' came up. Rumors said he died or went to the United Kingdom somewhere, I don't know if that's true or not," Kathryn replied and looked to Ethan who just sat there with a little bit of sadness in his face.
"Pa never came back?" Ethan questioned with a sad tone.
"No, he didn't. He thought all of you were dead because of how much blood your hand left behind on the floor. He wouldn't listen to any of us, we tried to tell him you were still out there yet he ignored us and left."
"Sounds like somethin' Mark would do..." (Y/n) stated looking away a little to the floor. "He never listened..."
"That sounds definitely like him," Ethan chuckled earning (Y/n) full attention. "Is anyone from when we were kids still livin' here?"
"Yes, Bryan he came back about 3 years ago, he disappeared the day you did." Ethan's eyes narrowed at the mention of his old friends name.
"That son of a bitch..." Ethan chuckled hysterically and shook his head. "That asshole left the gang with no word, he left his best friend behind without a fuckin' goodbye! Where is he?" Ethan leaned forward looking at Kathryn with a determined yet cold look on his face.
"He is usually at the saloon down the way, he is barely not there," Kathryn responded, Ethan started to get up but (Y/n) grabbed his arm and pulled him back into his seat.
"No, Ethan. Not now lets just have a good evenin' please?" (Y/n) begged making him sigh and looked down a little at the bowl.
"How have you been Kat?" Ethan sighed out in defeat.
"Well I've been better, when you guys left a couple years later i married a man from out East, he was a business man and well we were happy at first until he left me for a whore," Kathryn replied with a shrug and took a sip of her drink. (Y/n)'s eyes widened as she took a bite of her soup.
"Wow I am so sorry about that Kathryn," (Y/n) said with sympathy in her words. It was terrible to hear that from a old friend who was caring and had a good heart. She was heartbroken.
"It was been like 2 years since he left but I don't care anymore he can go burn in hell for all care."
"Won't we all though?" Ethan replied as he lifted his spoon full of soup and placed the food into his mouth.
"That is true," Kathryn didn't deny that he was absolutely correct in every way.
