In the beginning, all the large cats lived together. They all had jobs, and everyone was happy.... Except the cheetah.

He was the hunter for the cats, but he did not enjoy it. The other cats always took the best meat of his catch, leaving him with scraps.

That wasn't fair.

He did all the work, but he never got thanks or recognition!

'How horrible it would be if they had to hunt for themselves,' he thought bitterly.

Now, the clan had a rule that all the cats followed: never look to serve yourself before others. But the cheetah did not care about this rule. He was hungry and much thinner than all the other cats.

The next time he went to hunt, the cheetah first caught several large birds to eat by himself. But this caused a problem.

After he had eaten, the cheetah was very sleepy and slow. He could not catch anything for the clan.

When he returned without food, the other cats questioned him. "Where is the food?" They asked. "We need to feed our cubs!"

The cheetah lied. "I did not find any animals to hunt. There was nothing I could do."

But the spirits of the birds he had eaten had followed him back. When they heard this, they swarmed inside his mouth and chirped loudly: "I ate before hunting and was too slow to catch anything!"

The cheetah panicked. "Who said that?" He shouted.

The cats were furious. "You selfish cat!" They chased him away from their home.

The cheetah ran as far as he could and found a new home in the grasslands. But the spirits of the birds stayed with him, chirping as he ran.

Ever since then, cheetahs have been incapable of roaring. Instead, they chirp, a constant reminder for the world not to steal or lie.

[A/N you know when you have to write like fables or whatever for a class? This was mine from senior year and I quite enjoy it 😊]
